Heard there was a chance we would get into a northwest flow this next week which would bring heaps of snow, but now their saying its probably going to turn westerly, and if I remember right, this is the flow that brings fohen and takes all snow...??? Please tell me its not so. Weather followers, is there any chance of this northwest taking charge???
still had a good day at Verbier yesterday though!!!
as usual.... better say nothing about what a 5-7 day trend will translate into.....
Any little hope I can latch onto at this point is good! Weather.com seems to have a storm on the far horizon:

Wow, just left the MBC. Anyone know where Im staying? Had 12 glasses of Chablis, you know, you cant get this at Mt. Hunter, that Carlo Rossi is a genius. Whos up for the grande montey tomorrrow?
Where am I?
I was in Nendaz today, weather was crappy as hell. At the top of the tracouet lift (2200m) the thermometer on the information board showed a whopping +16C. The connection slope to the rest of the area(verbier etc.) was closed due to lack of snow.
Was in the Arlberg yesterday. Went touring from Stuben. The snow was mostly sheet ice - all the soft stuff has been blown off and all that remains is from the effects of the rain. Further down, there was about 5cm of soft snow on top of the ice. Had to walk down a section of grass to get onto the path (which had ice on it) thats heads out to the Verwallstube.
I will not be skiing again until we get some substantial snowfall.
French Alps look like they may get some action this weekend.
And the Italian alps. Woo hoo. Gressoney here I come (in 27 days).
We haven't had a nice snow dance in this thread for a while.

hey! you roos are going gressoney? how many days?
Hey TDJ...Nendaz 16c at the weekend??
Strange weather situation!
I was in Verbier for the wekend and it was sunny but nowhere near as warm as that. There was no sign of slush at all.
Off piste...crap in general.
Tortin..snow good, but lots of rocks at the top. If you do it at the moment just arrive and drop-in....don't traverse to skiers right, rocks just get worse.
Pistes all fully covered, polished and hard...sharpen those edges.
But 16c in Nendaz...freaky...Verbier mid mountain was cold and clear...note "cold" !
I'm there on a backcountry camp with my pal from the 4th March till the 11th. We'll then be heading (somehow) to Alpes D'Huez to meet Roo and the boys to show them our new skillz!
The camp runs from 5th till 9th and we'll have a free ski day on Sat 10th before heading west. Are you planning to head that way? We're always up for beers and the Saturday is certainly a ski possibility.

You're on! I'll PM you nearer the time.
You do realise I'm the gaper of all gapers don't you?

This is some video from ski touring in the French south-Savoie area at the weekend and some comments on the current and future conditions French snow conditions based on my recents outings. The latter filmed exclusively, on location, in my back garden.
Engelberg wasn't great, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Off piste is pretty much all hard-packed. Some is bullet-proof (eg on the glacier). However, there are little stashes left if you scout around and get creative. Needs lots of snow for the Laub to be worthwhile; didn't even bother looking at the Galtiburg - expect it's a horror show lower down.
Looks like snow is on its way - it needs a couple of good dumps and it should be OK
