and isn't the cleat the special sauce which is the subject of the patent?

I don't think you can patent something which has prior art existing for a long ass time

Just from the website the gary wayne skis look like dogshit quality. IMO.
Plywood or stacked veneer? Super thick and no tipspacer? Garbage.
Great discussion. Thanks for the insight Marshall.
These look very interesting.
Just to be clear Dps patented the vertical cleat design. Not a convex base. A cleat works best with a convex base, certainly, but the cleat is the innovation that makes a convex base not a total death trap. Hope that helps? All about the innovation. Everywhere. It's a good time to be a skier.

How would the convexity be on steep terrain? I'd imagine that even with the cleats you'd compromise a fair amount of edge hold.
I hope they ride like snowblades on ice, but in powpow!
Just fucking point it and shut up
These skis are not designed for steep icy couloirs.

Convex bases in powder does sound like a shitload of fun though.

Steep terrain is only one part of the equation...steep with lots of POW?
Deep snow, steep terrain, reverse sidecut, convex base and cleats = win.
Steep, icy/variable terrain, those cleats are what makes the reverse sidecut and convex base get some hold before you hit the goods.

marshal; did I read, that SD has skied these? Or am I making that up. If he has, how did they go?
Edit: I am making that up aren't I?
When will these see some testing?
I see this design concept as the closest thing to the 'magic carpet' ride down a slope that I sometimes have dreams about (sorry about the inherently personal bit). The way I see the ultimate ski is that it lets you do whatever you want without the limitations of the ski. The 150 concept seems to touch on that, in powder anyway. I hope it works up.
(spoon is a great analogy but not such a flash image for it long term - just my thought)

Nine out of ten Jeremy's prefer a warm jacket to a warm day
stephan got 2 days on them in jackson between OR and SIA.
his personal thought is "this is the future of powder skiing". strong statement coming from him.
i am hoping to sneak a couple runs on them monday AM on the way to the airport to head to ISPO.
I wonder how they skin?
