    Advice needed: Higher end P+S

Hey, has anyone done any Point and Shoot shopping lately?

I'm looking for a buddies wedding present, I can't break the bank on a new G series or s95, but want to find something up to ~<$250.

    Features should include:

    Manual mode for exposure
    30mm equivalent or wider
    3.5 or faster
optical zoom of 4X or more
some HD film mode would be nice
    SD card
takes decent pictures that don't have purple hazing or sharpness issues

I think the ideal camera might be the Canon 210 IS but it's still a little more spendy than I was looking for. The Panasonic ZS7 looks really good, and I had a lumix that I liked already. Is there a Nikon equivolent or anything else that I should check out?

I thought these things would be a little cheaper these days.

Anyway, thanks for the help dudes!

Costco has the Panasonic ZS6 for $200. I think it darn near exactly what you're looking for.

Not exactly everything. It costs much more than $250.

I think you could find what you're looking for in the Nikon Coolpix lineup. I was at the camera store yesterday fondling SLRs but a buddy of mine is wanting a P&S so I was checking them out and they had the Coolpix on sale. Can't remember the model number, but for $179 it was 10mp, had a 28-140 equivalent zoom range and did 720P video.

Hot tip, it totally checks out.

the ZS6 stacks up nicely against the ZS7 with better battery life and a 2GB card. GPS is a little meh and he doesn't do much video anyway.

Thanks dude! Appreciate the other suggestions but I think this is it!

Doesn't meet all your metrics, but I do like the Canon SX120is. A family member of mine has one that takes great photos and I am addicted to the 10x optical zoom. I find myself grabbing it so I don't have to lug around my DSLR (+ multiple lenses), and the photos are very good for this little P+S. I also like that it takes AA batteries, which I find is crucial for cold weather and the ability to easily swap them when in the field.
