    HEY BARISTAS!

I've grown tired of making the trip to Sbux every day before work for my lattes. I'd like to make my own at home. My wife won't let me drop $2,400 on this bad boy:

so what's my best option? I have one of these Keurig machines, can I do anything with that?

What's the best way to froth up some milk?

I know not all of you are fry cooks or dentists, so put on your black rimmed art-school glasses, let your inner-hipster shine, and help a mag make a latte at home!

Yes, I tried PM'ing David Witherspoon. No response. I'll edit if he does.

But it's clearly listed in the TGR owners manual that Witherspoon=barista.

Isn't Rontele more of an expert in the proper drop time for the perfect 8 pack of chicken McNuggets?

My wife rocks one of these (Gaggia Baby Espresso):

I drink tea, so I have no input on the machine....except my wife is not spending 4 bucks a day at starbucks. So, I love it.

So things have been good, eh? M3, espresso machine, I didn't check the finer things thread, but you must have a list. I heli skied in Whistler a long time ago and one guy in our group had NEVER sat his ass in a chair lift, he learned to ski from heli trips.

    Was that you?

2011 is off to a decent start, but trust me the car and espresso machine are mutually exclusive of eachother. I just am tired of paying $4.50 for bitter/charred espresso drinks that always seem to be different than what i ordered. To answer your other question I did post in the finer things thread too, and kept the list short to just my favorites.

Not me on your heli-trip, butthat guy sounds like he's got some good things going for him. Too bad he'll never know the beauty of bullet-proof boilerplate ice, "mountains" with 200' vert, and skiers in jeans. Oh well, not everyone can live.

Find a good local joint that makes consistent and cheaper espressos?

I think my local place (drive thru to boot) charges 2.75 for a 16oz latte and their shit is good, although typically I just go straight up coffee.

Or, years ago (we're talking ~15) I got a Capresso home espresso machine as a gift. At the time it was very expensive and top of the line. Not sure if thats still the case, but the thing works very well. Something about it actually using pressure, not a pump.

Anyway, totally solid device. Haven't used it in a few years, but I'm sure I could fire it right up and make a good cup of espresso or use the steam arm on the side to make other drinks.

K cups are the gas station cappuccino of home brewed coffee.

I have a Francis!Francis! X6 I'd sell for $125 shipped in the US. It does pods (different from K cups...), not loose grinds, but it does them consistently well. Cleanups a breeze as a result. Also frothing is super-easy - the wand has one of those idiot-proof holes on it to aerate (sp?) the milk.

Biggest drawback, is it's red. Doesn't look good in my girlfriends kitchen. Replaced it with my parents' Rancilio Silvia. Niice.

    Step 1: GROW SOME BALLS
Step 2: Buy a french press, grinder, and teapot for under $75
Step 3: Enjoy awesome coffee, black and simple.

    Lattes are for soccer moms...

That espresso maker is a piece of shit. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more.

Also, take it to the espresso thread JONG.
