It’s hard to say. Let’s not forget that the TX Pro is just a TX comp but with a softer plastic, and tech inserts and therefore slightly heavier. Or, in the words of one shop friend I won’t name, it’s just the somewhat crappier identical twin of the tx comp that Scarpa felt would provide the kinder gentler introduction to NTN that someone who had been wallowing in worn out T1s and G3 (!) bindings would find an easy transition.

I’m not on Craig’s forum much but it’s filled with tele skiers who wanted a tech fitting tx comp since the tx pro was so soft yet had no weight advantage. https://www.backcountrytalk.com/forum/gear/boots/3723-

So back when Scarpa minions said the tx comp was the benchmark for the Unicorn, I wasn’t at all surprised. Why would the Pro be a benchmark? Customers complained about bellows collapse on it. It had no advantages vs Comp. We merely put up with it to ski Meijdo and Lynx bindings. And it worked fine, but Comp would ski better with no downside.

    Nice post.

I was one of them. that bellows flex is annoying and i can barely stand it. while being my only boot with the tech toe, i've got no tech toe binding currently, so the Pros are primarily my backup boots currently while i search out a second set of Tx Comp.

I never experienced “bellows collapse” on my Pros but I ski pretty tall. My biggest beef with the Pros and Comps is the extra buckle on the cuff. It adds nothing IMO. I don’t need it on my cabrio alpine boots.

I’m going to try tele lift served again this year. I’m going to use a TX, Freedoms and something around 90 underfoot. That was always the sweet spot for me with tele.

100% agree, though perhaps I'm more happy with the Tx Pros than merely putting up with them. If the Comps had tech inserts, I'd consider a two-boot quiver after I get the 1400g boot.

I've been perfectly happy with my TX Pros, but have nothing but T1s to compare them to.

That was my debate, too. My guess for many is that it’s a blissful ignorance and they adjust to whatever boots they’re using. I was an ener-g guy. I queried around the internet, I asked a few friends, and I asked Patrollers who know how I ski and we’re using both (or either) tx-pro and/or tx-comps. Recommendation, especially always from patrollers, was tx-comp.

The TX comp is my favorite boot to date for charging in bounds. Better than the T-1 imo, never skied the T-race though. The instep strap (vs Garmont) makes a big difference in keeping the heel in the pocket for me. Being a long time Garmont guy before switching to Scarpa, I always wondered what the TX pro might compare to, a bit softer than the Syner-g I suspect?

I will say that I have seen large guys absolutely killing it inbounds on the TX pros, so it’s a case of the skier not the gear for me at least. I like having more control to get back on top of things when I eff up vs the smooth mellow perfection of some tele folks that seem oblivious to all this type of minutia, ha.

It’s the binding more than anything for me. I’ve transitioned 3 skis in my quiver to outlaws (inserts) and a 4th has freedoms (THX, PB!!!). I got the 4th with freedoms dialed first and have a different spring combos for each ski with the outlaws to dial in my preferred feel.

Very strong/stable via PT. Physiatrists and PT have not been able to tell via physical assessments, but MRI last month showed slight tear in MCL, damage to horn of medial meniscus, and no ACL. Getting measured for a fancy brace on Monday. (tri-u provided some very reassuring sharing of his own personal experience). PT has cleared me to ski in a mellow fashion without any brace and cleared to ski in normal mode with the brace as long as I don’t keep reinjuring myself. Likely not going off jumps or cliffs.

How’s your back and other body parts?

Sounds like a great setup. Probably would look at the same of getting back into NTN. Although I wish 22D would make a resort-only Outlaw.

I think I’m most excited about the return of the ratchet strap instep buckle.

Holy shit me too. Replacing those horrendous cable buckles is atrocious.

Speaking of which I tried to get it into freeheel life to pick up some boot parts again this year because you know they inevitably fail, leaving me needing to do a repair. “Sorry, bro we are appointment only and we don’t have any boot parts anyway at this time “

Gee thanks guys. How does a fucking full service telemark ski shop not have replacement parts for the main line of boots, they sell…

Where is the boa? It feels like they may be missing the boat. How much does boa affect price?

Regarding FHL, that’s messed up that they aren’t willing to sort through their ski boot parts containers, even by appointment. There’s something substantial going on internal. Cutting down the number of brands that they typically carry hints to me that they are struggling to pay their bills. That is pure speculation and may not be the story.

That fb thread, a tester is stating that the tx comp will disappear and the new tx pro is supposed to be stiffer then the current tx comp

Excellent prognosis! Back's "ok" for now, but recovering from abdominal surgery at the moment. - should be good to go on snow in another week or so.
