I liked the Tuas before they went to that cap construction. Vertical sidewall with metal Cirques and Montets were so smooth

I called Erik Fey this morning and he said he will take care of it. There are a few batches of the tech toe inserts where the metal just isn’t as strong. So I’m swapping toes off my pow skis as a temp fix (won’t need those for awhile!) and mailing the broken one to NH.

I am not really the one to be posting Instagram links but I saw this just now. They look sexy and I like that they revised the new mid foot buckle.

    I’ll be meadow skipping at Heavenly 2/2 & 2/3. Blue helmet/ on MFree’s or ON3P’s. Forecast looks promising [emoji106]

the 'trout negligee's' were the bomb for low angle, ankle deep, cascade pow.

    Are they cheaper?

I’m very unimpressed with the brakes and currently ski leash and brakeless. They’re brakes worked on my OG mantras, but hang out too far on my bibby’s. It’s a fucked up feeling carving a turn and having your brakes suddenly hit the hard 2d snow. Brakes on freedoms have been fine for me.

Checking back after maybe a dozen days on the new skis. I’ve had a mix of resort pow, resort mixed and a couple short tours.

They’re stiffer than the OG ripsticks especially since those have a couple hundred days. They ski in the same predictable manner, hold a nice edge, blast through crud, turn on a dime and float pretty nice in medium pow conditions. Being a stiffer ski I find myself in the back seat a bit here and there and need to adjust weight and position to get back in the drivers seat. It’s not a harsh payback tho like some other big boy skis - they’re still fairly forgiving. I haven’t hit the speed limit on them yet but they definitely like to go fast and feel damp and stable while doing so.

The black edition has a harsher overall ride and I wonder if I like ride of the OG model more… time will tell on this.

I also feel like the increased stiffness might decrease their float in deeper pow (something I found with the Head Kore) and this is TBD.

Overall, no surprises here. If you’re in SLC area and wanna take these for a spin lemme know.

Heavenly did not suck today. At least not until my tip found a submerged ponderosa stump and over extended my trailing leg pulling/ tearing my upper quad muscle. No use whining, so I am going to try and make a go of alpine only turns tomorrow vs sitting in my hotel room.

I feel like if someone engineered a good brake that didn't hang out when turning and uphill, people would get it. But a small market for sure.

Don't think they're on the tour, certainly none at Santa Fe. Would be really interested in checking out the brakes. They are purported to be "retractable", which hopefully means they move inward over the ski when the boot is engaged (like any alpine/AT brake).

oh that's a bummer. i'm still getting used to the outlaw brakes. didn't get caught up at all today, so i think i'm learning to fix the stance. good skiing today, the black edition ripsticks slayed everything in a rewarding fashion. prolly gonna take them out touring tomorrow.

and sympathies to mn_teleswede. sucks to get sidelined.

That’s a fun way to ski with the kiddo

Anybody know of how to locally source for the 22design outlaw shim tape or of an equivalent, like something I can get from the hardware store? Yesterday, I threw a toe on a powder day (eek! luckily the ski was right underneath me). I skied to my bag at the base lodge, paused and applied some shim tape that I had, and skied the rest of the day without incident. I haven’t looked closely to see if the shim tape solved the issue that may have caused the prerelease. But now I’m out of shim tape. I’d prefer to use a reasonable equivalent from the local hardware store.

Wow, never heard of shim tape but I was pre-releasing all over the place on Saturday. It got to the point where I could kick my ski off with just a few wiggles of my boot. I assumed something just needed to be lubed, and I can't replicate the problem on the bench. Have been in contact with 22D, will see what they recommend, but maybe will try out some shim tape under the sliders.

Assuming it's clear slippery thick tape, maybe Tenacious Tape would work? Probably not any cheaper though.

I don't even understand the why of the problem or where the shim tape goes?

You talking about anti-ice tape? If so, UHMW tape is the stuff - comes in different widths and thicknesses. Not cheap and probably won't find it locally, but can get it on Amazon, McMaster, etc.

    Thanks!

I’ll probably just order online then.

    Here’s the item from 22designs: https://www.twentytwodesigns.com/Out...ape_p_122.html

It can add to that spacer distance. When you boot is flat. There can also be the need to tap (with a hammer) the metal piece that the second heel claw attached to. It’s difficult to explain. I’m not entirely sure why i prereleased. It can happen when a ski severely decambers, as it rebounds, which may have been my experience. I was skiing in hyper dense low angle cement.

how is the tape different from the spacers they offer? I did occasionally have trouble stepping in and just added those little metal spacers they offer (which seemed to help based on one day of skiing). But I have never stepped out of/released from the Outlaw.

What's the lightest ski you'd mount an NTN binding ala Lynx or TTS on? I want something that will keep me in the remotely the same ballpark as friends in two buckle boots when volcano season rolls around. Easy answer is voile endeavor BC but wouldn't mind lighter so long as it doesn't explode. TX pro frankenboots will tide me until we all get modern ROM with the new boots.
