What aftermarket liners are you guys using with your tele's? My stock liner on Crispi Evo WC's is packing out. I'm tempted to try zipfits for longevity sake. I've run tongue tour liners in prior boots but am curious how the wrap liners do with tele? Any thoughts? FWIW, I run stiff setup w/ Meidjo's cranked if that matters.

I'm no expert, but I use the intuition "alpine" liner (a wrap liner) in my TX Pros. Works well, and actually stiffens up the boot a little bit.

ZipFit GFTs work really well for me in TX Pros, especially if you have low-volume feet and have to make a relatively wide boot work. Be prepared to add plenty of cork, though. With ZipFits you're supposed to put the liner on your foot, then slide into the shell; the $13 ski boot horn makes this much easier.

Quick Q about mounting bindings. If I get a pair of flat skis that were already mounted 22D, I can just screw my 22D bindings right in, correct? With a little wood glue?

If the holes are already filled, should I drill them out and then screw right in? Or do I tap first?

Was considering QK but they have two sheets of metal so I may just screw right in for now if that’s an easy option. Sorry for the overly simplistic question, this will be my first time mounting myself, though I am an experienced tool and tool user.

You'll probably get a bunch of different opinions on this, but, if they were my skis, I would first try drilling out the epoxy (accurately), tapping and then installing with good glue. If they seem solid, great -- if not, I would try inserts next, before resorting to drilling new holes offset from the originals.

On a related note, I have frequently reused holes (not filled with plugs or epoxy), but I knew that I was using the same size/pitch of screws as the original mounting.

Also, before you do anything, you might as well check that the previous 22D bindings were mounted in a good spot for you and your boots -- telemark mounters are notorious for mounting bindings all over the place with respect to boot center, chord center, and BOFCRS (ball of foot at center of running surface).

Thanks for the tips! That’s a good point about screw thread pitch of the previous mount. If I’m drilling and tapping, I might as well just install the inserts while I’m at it. Looking forward to some future NTN switch. As for mount point, they’re apparently alpine center at my same BSL, but my AXLs will put me back 8mm relative to the Outlaw X mount.

Anyone in Jackson area have the outer cuff hardware for Crispi boots? I’m on 26.5 World Cups. I’m heading to hardware store for an attempt at replacement and have the OEM parts on order from Fey Bros but hoping to ski again tomorrow with kids.

I concur with everything andy m has written, for the record. I'm also a fan of Loctite marine epoxy. Getting the fore/aft mount point correct is critical to have a tele ski perform. My most recent mount I went further aft that I would have liked to avoid Rottefella holes and it just skis weird.

I would use the old holes with slowset epoxy especialy for a tele mount , if a screw has already been in those holes then they have threads so I don't see a need to Tap in fact I think you are more in danger of making the holes too big and causing a spinner cuz there won't be a great deal of structure in anything that was filling those holes

I would use a very small bit to start a pilot hole to get that hole right in the middle of the old hole, then use progressively larger bits so you don't fuck the old threads

As mentioned maybe the old mount was shit so check that out ?

depending on the ski you could just move 1cm either way of the boot center mark, probably forward especialy if you got a really big BSL

X2, definitely wouldn’t drill out unless old holes are screwed up, offset, angled, etc. If they line up, are straight, old thread grooves look good, a bit of 24 hour epoxy, turn screw backwards to make sure it drops into old grooves, tighten, let cure, go skiing.

    Assuming the holes aren’t filled…

Current gen Salomon MTN making me nostalgic for my old Merrell Supercomps. Doubt it was intentional but still pretty cool. I have the 1st gen black and blue ones unfortunately.

So awesome at the time. Leaps and bounds over the Asolo Extremes and what-have-you. State of the art till the OG Terminator came out.

I Think of the average tele boot effectively as a 300 mm long lever rotating around the screws in the toe piece which is which is something you don't get with a releasable fixed heel setup

so I use a slow set epoxy

I forgot about their plastic-cuff Supercomp clone, or was it the other way around? The Arkos actually looks a bit burlier with the full-wrap cuff and all metal bail style buckles. I thought it came after the Supercomp?

Yep. Man those were the days. Replaced my Supercomps with the first blue Garmont. Warrantied those and many subsequent pairs of various models of Garmonts till I hung up the pins in '06. Figured releasable bindings were in order after my second ACL.

Yeah, knee related injuries forced me out too!
Really appreciate watching someone that rips tele these days! I miss it...kinda
I went from Scarpa Expresso's(burlier Asolo Extreme) to Terminator series boots.
Those OG Terminators w/ the straight bellows were a toe guillotine for me.

Boyhowdy, they were brutal. Milk carton/flower pot insert protected the toes and provided a nearly TX comp level stiff bellows.
