I’m on the 177 rocker mantras too and the one thing I’ll say is that it’s really easy to over rotate turns on hard pack. Every year I take them out early season and feel like a total idiot trying to keep the tails from scrubbing out. Then I get them out in some fresh cream cheese and I remember why I love em. Give yourself a couple 3D snow days before you decide to bin them and find something with camber.
Thanks for the beta, I'm excited to mount these up and try them next week. Last time I tele'd was on straight skis and those bindings with just the cable looped around the boot in the back... I'm sure the T1/vice setup will be a massive upgrade
my experience with the tail washout-issue on hard pack for myself and friends is a technique adjustment: cheeks tight (aka "push the bush"); counter rotation with shoulders, "headlights," and hands downhill; that slight pinch feeling at the downhill waist/hip; counterbalance with upper body upright/leaning down the hill; and weight centered between the skis. The biggest issue seems to be too much weight on the downhill ski (even leaning the center of balance over the ski) and not enough weight on the uphill/trailing ski. sometimes, if I am feeling off when lift riding, a few monomark turns on a groomer will set me straight and get my body to remember the correct body position.
Has anyone used these boots...

Wondering how they'd be for Tele.
I doubt they would offer much if any support for downhill turning. Those are for shuffling across the tundra and sea ice

I’m starting to come around to the idea that maybe I should be thinking/getting new mantras at a more appropriate length. My older full camber are 184cm. M102 or M6? At 155 lbs and making tele turns and reading discussion on this forum from heavier alpine skiers about mantra length and reading the blister reviews, looks like I might want to consider 170cm. That’s short but maybe(?) realistic.
Thoughts and feelings?
Tele festival at Pebble Creek in SE Idaho on 3/11/23, fun event and there is some great skiing to be had, FYI.

ok the newer mantras have a much different shape than an older trad camber ski. I would caution going that short with that much rocker. my thought is to ski them first.
my experience that i draw from here is my 4frnt renegades are 186 and NEVER seem too long. None of my other skis are 186 because in a traditional shape, that length would be too long for tele. But with a rocker-flat-rocker ski, the longer length is manageable and desirable when dropping the knee. cheers
Well I got some m102 170’s rolling in next week, I hope. I’ll report back. If too short, I’ll be selling.
Reading our current tgr volkl thread and the blister review, many locked heel skiers that are heavier than me seem to think that 177 is right (or would) be right for them for the m102. I’m sure 170 will be very nimble and easy to flex in a tele turn on steep hard snow. It’ll be interesting to see where the speed limit sits on something so short. I’m currently feeling optimistic. My 184 bibby’s feel great to me and I’ve never felt that they were the wrong length.
They call him Telemark Tom
