Shocking problem - MOBO or Power

So I usually run with my case open because I'm ghetto. I have a case fan that rattles so I stick my finger on the spindle to stop it, then it'll be fine for another hour or so.
I was going to leave my machine rendering all night and I worried about the fan. I went to put the case cover back on and just as it made contact - POOF! I shorted out something? My mobo (Gige-Byte GA-8SiMLH) has a DIMM LED on and it's orange but the power switch does nothing to bring the machine back on. Anyone have a guess as to what shorted? I plan to start with:
    Power supply
    Case switch
    Mobo
I checked the manual but no mention of what the color means, orange doesn't seem good.

Figures, I have 12 trade show videos to do, I had budged a video a day till the truck leaves. Figures..... Anyone with similar experience?

I would guess mobo. But, it's easier to swap out the PS in your process of elimination. Good luck.

PS. Replacement fans cost about $4. Next time, just buy one.

    Call me a kook

It was the power supply. Serves me right, 300 watt PS running 5 Hard drives, Burner, Zip, and two fans. One of my drives was laying on the case bottom. I didn't have all the motherboard mounting screws installed. 500 watt PS ordered as well as a new fan. I'll now run my machine with all the screws in.

Why do you have to order a power supply? Do you live in the woods? Your local computer store will sell them for $25.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Because you'll get a much better deal by ordering online. You should try it sometime.

and a $25 dollar PSU will shit the fuck out right when you don't want it too.

Clean power is vital to system health and dependablity, your old one might have shit the bed because you were running all that...

If your running 5HD's and a decent video card than I would be running at least 350 - 400 watt PSU. The extra wattage wont cost you anything on your power bill - a PSU only consumes what it needs. Keep in mind the latest processors use 30 to 70 watts of power, while older PIII and such are 20-35 or something....

Do yourself a favor and get a fortron/sparkle (same brand, differnet names)power supply.

Price to performance- there is no beating em.

Keep in mind that a 500watt no name will be trounced by a good name (antec/sparkle/pcpc/enermax) power supply with a far lower power rating.

As a matter a fact I do live in the woods, the closest strip mall with a computer store is an hour and fifteen minutes away.
