Yeah, it has a whole shitload of export options fully customizable to confuse you for weeks on end if you have the patience. So, yes, mpg, mov, avi, and a thousand compression options. Some presets for common exports, and many options from there.

Good program thank you. Done my edit. Couple questions that I can't figure out. How do I convert it to an file format that I can upload on to vimeo?

How do you get rid of the timeline on the video?

EDIT: Think I figured it out. Will see in the morning I guess.......

Time display - Go to VIEW>ON SCREEN DISPLAY>STATUS or CTRL+G on a PC.

Exporting is the tricky part because it depends on the intended website, etc. The Edius Forums are an excellent source of info.
[ame="http://ediusforum.grassvalley.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7"]Editing with EDIUS - Grass Valley Desktop Solutions Forums[/ame]

You can ask that question there and someone is usually very glad to help.

I searched for youtube and got a bunch you can look through:

Here's a brief thread after a search for Vimeo:

I don't have any of my own HD content yet, so my experience with HD exporting is very limited. I've got a ContourHD GPS arriving next week though, so I'll have to figure it out soon myself.

I ended up using Eduis 6. Thanks a lot. Worked well and was very intuitive to use, similar to movie maker.

WOW!! That was some epic skiing there!

Nice footage. Looks crystal clear and real clean with no stuttering. Looks like you brightened it up a bit too. Excellent job. But yeah, what happened to the widescreen or did you shoot in tall mode or something. There's no distortion at all, but it looks cropped.

That's the Contour HD? If so, I'm pumped because it looks outstanding and I just got my Contour GPS ~ 6 hours ago. I'll be taking it to Whitewater in 10 days!! Hope I get to ski some pow like that.

Let me know what your settings were. I'm a noob with the Contour.
Glad Edius worked out - you might want to try and score yourself the Educational version for ~$160 if you can. It's well worth it IMO.

Tall setting is the only way to go. Otherwise you can't see the skis, I couldn't handle the way it looked with the 1080p setting on.

has anyone used Realplayer to do basic editing? i've been able to edit the length of the vid, but cannot add music. there is a little musical note button in the edit screen but i haven't been able to figure out how it works.

iMovie '08 and Realplayer software is very best for video editing. I worked with it, it is such a best and easy to work with its all options. Its help option shows the best guide to work easily.

I was laughing at kidwoos comment to the spammer directly below yours. I have no idea about entry level apps on windows but in 2 seconds of googling I found this. Could be awesome and it could be shit, but it's free to try and $70 to buy. Who knows. But I certainly wouldn't install anything from Real on even my worst enemies computer.

i've been using avs video editor (and the recorder for capturing occasionally) to do all my video on a PC.

My latest includes the hd helmet cam as well as stuff from an old non hd video camera.

Powdork, that's a very interesting use of the hlemet cam in vertical mode. I haven't seen that before, but you obviously like it and I can see why. It gets in all the action pretty nicely without feeling like you're missing much. What cam is that and how did you mount it? I guess I could get the same field of view with a top mounted Contour and rotate the lens 90*? Or maybe not.

I am greatly confounded by this. Is this just a crop from a normal wideframe or what? Please enlighten me!

pretty sure it's 90* to norm... I'm also thinking it's been discussed.

yes, it's the contour rotated 90*. one thing i also do is mount it upside down. it doesn't really matter since i rotate the video anyways, but it makes turning the camera on and off MUCH easier with no issues of the back plate coming open (i think this is a non-issue with this year's models, but i still prefer the record switch on the bottom).

Bumping an old thread for a new, but related question...

Is there a free video/movie editing software for PC that will handle 720 @ 60fps (eg. GoPro or Canon 60D/7D)?

Currently downloading OpenMovieEditor.org. but the free version leaves a prominent black and red watermark in the middle of the picture.

    Any other recommendations?

Windows Live Movie Maker should work fine and it's free. Use MPEG streamclip to convert your 7D footage from H264 to an editing codec such as Avid' DNxHD (free).

Cyberlink Powerdirector receives good reviews. Download the trial. $49.95

You'll want an external firewire or second internal hard drive to edit videos on for the best performance.

Bump because I want to know if anyone has used or knows of software i can use just to 'trim' GoPro mp4 files without re-compressing the video. I don't want to change formats, and i Don't need to do any other type of editing except taking very large and long running videos, clipping out the 'good' parts and saving each clip in the same format as the original. This way i can save the clipped files on my laptop, and later edit them at home using Vegas 10 on the desktop.

any recommendations on something i can download for free?

Quicktime. Open the file, "I" is your in point, "O" is your out point. File > export. If you don't adjust the settings (make sure to rename the trimmed file) it will save a new clip as the same codec. You can also transcode to any other codec installed in quicktime this way as well. Mpeg Streamclip does this as well but you have to set your output settings where you don't have to in Quicktime.
