Serious? I dunno - from what I hear even part time workers get full benefits. Sounds pretty good for what you have to do there.

If I didn't "require" the level of income I do at present I'd probably work there. Seems a lot better than fast food.

Edit: and I would like to add, the crew that works at the Starbucks in my building are great.

I equate working at Starbucks to working at Walmart.

They have a similar effect on local coffee shops. The new Starbucks on the Ave in Seattle actually had a window broken out shortly after it opened. There are 3 local shops within a block.

the way they treat their employees is stellar,
    full bennies etc.

    good tips too.

some shops are real generic but some, like the one in my old Marriott hae some great vibes to em.

    your call.

they do play not so fair with local coffee shops, but its an economy of scale thing not as exploitive as walMart

Mebbe but mebbe not. Starbucks is a local boy who made good. They used to have just one store and they expanded. At what point did they turn into the big bad boy? Kinda a fine line in my book - we applaud businesses making it but only to a point.

Starbucks certainly isn't cheaper than other stores.

    .

Wal-mart started the same way, KQ. One store in bum-fuck Arkansas is what started the whole thing.

Q: "How gay is it if I work at Starbucks?"

    A: It's completely fucking gay.

    Same with Walmart....

I guess I'm biased against Starbucks because I dislike the way their coffee tastes.

At anyrate, lets stay on topic. How gay would hardrider look in those green aprons?

I believe employees also get one free lb of coffee per week, too. If you can manage to use one pound per week you're one wired mofo.

Bottom line is it's a job to pay your bills. Who cares how gay it is? OK, the line is crossed if your job is a fluffer, but short of that...

Work is work. I met someone once who asked, "so what do you do?" and I started to explain my lame job, and she said "I don't give a shit about your job. What do you do? Like ski or paint or play music. What do you do?" That will always stick with me.

yes and I spoke to that in my post - the thing with Wal-Mart is that they undercut their competition - Starbucks does not. I could go to Monorail Espresso and get a cheaper cup o'joe.

In any case - I ask again: What is this line we draw re: positive vs. negative when a business is expanding? That is to say, when do we stop admiring them for doing well and who gets to decide? Do we put a cap on expansion just like we do on building? What about free enterprise?

I dunno, I bet you could pull ass both customers and baristas on a regular basis.

You could probably even get with women too.
