I hope Owen's face is still intact enough to drive home. Loved the gangsta's paradice outro. 10/10 show right there.

The 25th Sisters Folk Festival
Thirty-one acts on seven stages across town over three days.
Population in our town of 3000 increases to about 7000 for the weekend
This is a volunteer-driven event that benefits the Sisters School District music and performing arts programs. It’s an amazing program, including classes in dobro and pedal steel taught by area musicians. There’s also a luthier’s class (there’s several guitar makers in the area as mentors)
There’s more than 300 volunteers involved. I’ve been the Enabler of Self-Organizing Bike Valet Teams, providing complementary secure bike parking since 2013. At any point in time during festivities there’s about 200 bikes parked in our corrals. I set up the valet stations, provide orientation at the start of each shift for our 25 volunteers, be available if shit goes sideways, and otherwise wander & enjoy the show.
In anticipation of the event, I secured supplies. That’s about 1100 mg of pure THC, plus my small flower vape in case of emergency.
Was micro-dosing shrooms throughout as well.
The acts ranged from the usual bluegrass and solo/duo singer/songwriters to Psychedelic Panamanian to Cubano Rap to Grunge for Violin and Cello. In no particular order, my favorites were:
The Small Glories – Appalachian Hill music from Manitoba
Le Vent de Nord – Traditional music from French Canada. Multi-instumentalists including a hurdy gurdy.
Jigjam – Irish jigs meets bluegrass, with a token Scot playing fiddle
Emily Scott Robinson – an amazing songwriter - Her lyrics tear the emotions from your heart. She’s a friend of a friend, so I’ve heard her before – I can’t get thru a set without crying
Sorry no decent photo
Big Richard - Chick Bluegrass and country swing with attitude. First song was an up tempo cover of Gillian Welch’s Caleb Meyer followed by “A song about condoms called Greasy Coat”
Telmary e Habasana – Cubano rap
Telmary puts on an amazing act, including the distribution of rum to the band members throughout the set. Sorta violated the “no outside alcohol” rule…
The Accidentals – Grunge for Violin and Cello
These ladies met in their high school string orchestra. Their music teacher started an “alternative strings club” where they learned the music of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, White Stripes, Nirvana, and others. They did the best cover of Stevie Nicks’ Dreams I’ve heard. You really need to see these ladies – amazing musicians
Making Movies – my favorite act of the fest. Afro-Cubano rhythms meets psychedelic rock, with some amazing vocal effects via wawa. See them if you get the chance
With Ruben Blades
Three great days – already jonesing for next year
Going to Detroit to see Gizz on sunday, wish me luck lol

Reading this and thinking…given all the aging bands still touring, if you know that a lot of stuff is backed by recordings or other musicians, do you still go? Is it the experience of going more important than what you actually hear? I can take some added layers, but I essentially want to see them play a live version, warts and all. I can listen to the album at home, give me something unique.
Speaking of which, going to see Styx next week. Have never seen them, and they were one of my favorite bands…in like the 6th grade.
Apparently this Remain In Light tour with Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison is not to be missed. If you go for that sort of thing…

I’m excited for the clay pool flying frog brigade in may in slc, I’m assuming it’s at red butte based on the tbd venue. Thought it might be remain in light opening but we get fishbone. 14 year old me is pretty stoked on that
