Where to buy RECCO- reflector only

Anyone know where to buy the reflectors sold separately? Seems they were once available. I have all the clothing I need and will be skiing at Alpental where they have in bounds avalanches and the receivers to find my body.

Not sure if this is still true but when TNF started using them I was a rep for them and the question came up at a sales meeting during a presentation from Recco.

Their answer was no based on the fact that people would/could buy them and put them on their phone or whatever creating false burials.

Call mountain gear. Good customer service but on backorder. Maybe they can locate it or point you I. Right direction. They sold em last season. Also call reccoo. Sometimes.you can still get a live person who is not in India
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Hey! Thanks for the good replies. False positives makes a lot of sense. Guessing if RECCO is handling the distribution and I was a TNF product manager, I wouldn't want to jinx a million dollar relationship for a post from a TGR'er :-). Maybe I'll do a WTB for your old piece of s**t. pants in gear swap. Just want the body to be found before spring 2011

Wahoo!! A $199 season pass and a free room with a hot tub 200 yds from the lift line. Life is good. ( Well, OK)

Do they not sell them individually anymore? I bought a pair last year from mountain gear and stuck em on my boots. Who knows a $15 sticker might save your life/body one day.

The individual reflectors on mountaingear.com have been listed as "no longer available" for some time (definitely looked at the start of last season). My research then seemed to indicate they are no longer being sold individually. A quick search seems to indicate this is still the case.

Edit: Looks like they were available last December. We had a thread about a Recco rescue and someone linked to mountaingear. I suspect mags cleaned them out and there stock never got replenished:

There was a time when you could buy the tags and antenna (not in the fancy RECCO case) for around $0.25 each.

I have no idea if it is still possible but I will look into the source.

(It might be tied to the purchase of a receiver unit but I am not sure)

More likely they want you to have to buy there clothing to get Recco. they probably strong armed Recco and said sales would be down. Did Recco listen? see if you can get solo RECCO this year to find out I guess.

yo if i get my oakley alps jacket that got beat to shit last year back from warranty, i don't have a use for it and it isn't sellable. hopefully they'll hook me up with something new and keep the old one for all i care, but with the shitty service on their end so far i don't know that that'll happen. $25 and it's yours, if it comes back to me. be a couple weeks though.

It's nice to know you want your dead body found. If this is really a concern, do what most reasonable people would do- wear your beacon in bounds on big days. Then maybe, we'll find you while you are still breathing.

You have a transceiver, right? Wear it inbounds, and then double down by strutting around with it on at the bar.

Well, I have a "Tee shirt for beacon" deal going that is supposed to provide me with a beacon for this year. A RECCO would be a plus. But WTF. If I have RECCO and a beacon maybe they can find my body while it's still warm. I passed up some cool turns on Rainier last June because I was beacon-less. The real answer is to know when you are not so stupid that you know that you are being stupid. I feel that there is going to be some side country tragedies's this year and I don't want to be included.

Check with Patrol at your hill. I bought mine from patrol at Mt. Rose. I have since wised up a ski with a beacon on any deep day. I can tell you from experience that people and patrol will arrive long before anybody with a Recco receiver. Even if you buy the cheapest beacon possible that sucks at searching, it will still transmit if your ass is buried. (just make sure the frequency is good)

Anybody who skies big powder days, which is just about everybody here, should have a beacon. In bounds avi happen. I know of several at Mammoth, and it has a "safe" snow pack.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Skiing Rainier in June without a beacon quite likely to be safer than Alpy inbounds with just a Recco patch in winter.

    Tee shirt for beacon
Who can get some teeshirts printed with a beacon and harness printed on them.

That'd be fucking awesome. I want one.

The day I was there, 12 got buried and 11 were found. My limited avy knowledge suggested that it was unwise to ski solo, at 3 p.m. , out of view, and on the same aspect as this.

Good point. Where were you going to ski that day?

Print a t-shirt with a beacon and it's harness - so it looks as if you're wearing it.

You'll sell enough to buy your beacon and the avy 1 course you'll need to take.

I took the RECCO reflectors off my boots. I think they're in a box somewhere if you want them.

Wooley you cheap bastard.. get a fucking beacon!
Recco no fucking use to find your partners if THEY get buried and you aint skiing with me unless you have a beacon you old fart.

REMEMBER a beacon is not only so YOU can be found but also so you can find your partner!! And if you're skiing in the Alpy BC on your own then you're a bigger fool than I thought you were.

Use your entrepreneurial talents to print some beacon Tee-shirts and get some money.
I've got a spare I'm willing to lend you until you can afford one! PM me and I'll let you have it.

Start a trend. Take some powder cords and tie them round your neck.

I was also looking for these with no luck.

I have a beacon but in a lot of austrian resorts (where I'm lucky enough to ski sometimes) it pays to have both your beacon and recco reflectors. I'll continue to look online myself and follow the thread to find out where to buy these but I'll get in line after wooley12 if anyone has one they are not using.

    thanks,

    matt

Rather ironically, the RECCO system has been touted recently for its ability to find buried victims who lack the reflector tags, since cell phones and other personal electronics can often act in much the same way as the tags.

A lot of the austrian resorts I have been to say they have avalanche coverage by recco. So, I have my beacon but would also like to get some recco badges.
