Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the high winds and accumulation from this storm should make spatial variation sketch tomorrow.
Quick video of the conditions, lots of rocks.

Pretty sure that's just the cameras jacked up mic. You can hear those same clicks in other videos.

Spatial variability and temperature gradient equals super sketch snowpack for the rest of the year.

Yeah no joke, thanks for the token reminder that snow in October equals shitstorm in December and January. But none-the-less, I'm gonna go skiing today and worry about the bad snowpack later. Can't control when the snow falls, but may as well ski it when it does.

I'm hoping La NIna delivers the goods and we can bridge the crap later in the year. It's gonna get warm again too...so maybe this will melt off.

Yeah a lot of it will likely melt down. It's not gonna all go away but yeah, I have a feeling that once it hits, it's gonna hit hard and consistent to get us up off that bottom layer. That's was the problem last year was the consistently cold temps and long gaps between storms. Hopefully that's not the case this season.

But with this thin early season snowpack you have to watch out for the lurking rocks and stumps, don't want to end your season early by hitting something buried. Better off to wait till the coverage gets a little deeper.

we drove over BP around 10-1030 this am. viz on the road was under 50', saw 3 cars in the east summit lot. anyone out there skiing was taking their lives in their hands.

2 tanker trucks slid out. one sb at the 2nd switchback, one nb towards the final straightaway at the top.

it took a little over 1:15 to go from dt winter park to empire. shit load of traffic coming nb from empire too.

I am trying to see if I can get up tomorrow for some low-angle stuff on the east side...

Anyone else headed up? We'll see, I am kind of waiting for any reports possibly from today to tip my decision one way or the other

Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Responded to you and a couple of others as well...I am going to rally and get all my gear together and be up there around 7:00am at the lot.

FJ Cruiser (Dark Red) with big tires, ON3P sticker on back, and a Yellow or Pink Jacket...Caylors with rusty edges in tow .

If you don't mind a slightly out of shape guy with brand new boots tomorrow, then I am your guy.

See you all up there if it all works out.

It should be worth it for sure.. somwhere between 2 and 2 1/2 feet up there. Did 3 runs on the east wall with the skinny tele (91underfoot) skis and didn't hit anything. Digging at leat 1 foot trenches, Watch out for the early eaon rookie bombholes...

as I was with my hellbents. didn't hit a single rock today. even fallen trees have enough snow on top of them to ride over them.

I'm hoping to get up there tomorrow afternoon, maybe around 2 or 3 and ski for a few hours. Anyone want to meet up for some laps?

Berthoud was pretty beat as we drove through around 5pm tonight. A dozen or so vehicles in the lot, tracks all over, and a whole lotta grass and logs sticking out.

Big totals up north...Buff got around 4', West side Rollins had an easy 4'-5', and up around Never Summers got a good 3' on top of what they had gotten last week. Snow was on the dense side, but skied really well. Didn't hit anything today. Got the sled stuck a whole bunch, but would rather have that than dodging rocks and logs all day.

Warming trend coming in soon. Hoping storms keep rolling through to build up a base.
