    Ski length?

I have two questions for this board that I recently joined
I am 17, 6'3 and only 160 pounds. What length of a rockered ski should I have? I ski on some 174 k2 outlaws right now and they are really easy for me. I want a powder ski and the ski's I am looking at are the Benchleter, JJ, and the Bibby pro. I know the JJ only comes in 185 and the others have an option in the 80's and 90's. What skis are the best for hucking cliffs and back country jumps and what length should I get?
    Thanks so much!

OK first I will qualify all my remarks and tell you I'm a has been old fuck, however once I did rip. And it was in the days of men (all real men) skiing everything on 210+cm skinny skis. My fave all-rounder at the time was a 215 lady DH (I was 5'7" and about 165). So this whole length thing... well there's no doubt that skis have gotten quite a bit shorter because they've gotten so much fatter. Bottom line is you can grow into a ski that's perhaps a bit longer than you're comfortable with. Much better than getting a short ski, then hating it after 10 days. Generally rockered skis seem to be skiing about 8 - 10cms shorter than they are (a 185 is skiing like a 178-ish). But it's not that simple because with technology now, a 178 is skiing like a 205 of old. Also, the game is changed if you're skiing lots of deep pow. Going big (like a 190+) is not a bad thing at all.

As far as the hucking cliffs and stuff, uh well I had a pair of 205 Volkl R RS's that did that pretty good in the late 80's
    and eat lots of eggs
ps - demo or borrow skis too

At your height and considering your age(you will probably put on some weight in the next few years I hope..) you should probably be getting something 185+, especially in a rockered ski. A 185 will have a shorter running length then the skis your on now anyways.

I weigh five pounds less than you and I'm two inches shorter.

    I've always skied 179-184 in regular cambered/slight tip-rockered skis.

I have a pair of 188 Praxis Protests and they're very very manageable for me. So I'd say if there's rocker on both ends, go long--especially at your height. If you're spinning a lot, that might be the only thing that would really cut against this. But since you're on 174 Outlaws, I'd imagine you're not throwing Rodeo 5s...

I'm 6'2" and find anything shorter than 190 is just silly and unreasonably small.

Go big or go home. 185 min. Plus skis lengths are so weird now that the length written on the ski isn't relevant. My 191 Armada Ants are a touch longer than my 194 xxls which are way shorter than my 189 K2 hellbents.
But if dont ski very often and or are out of shape, dont go too long. I think I'd rather ski all day on a pair of 180ish cm skis than a few runs of some 190ish cm skis.
That being said, hit the gym, do some squats, and then you can go as long as you want.

We are sorry that threads like this happen to!
Skis are measured in Centimeters, I know it's confusing to Americans. Maybe try a Euro brand instead of K2 and it may make more sense.
See the hospital air thread for info on ski choices for hucking, see I can be sarcastic and helpful too.
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues
