Yo, just a heads up. I used pirate ship to send two pairs of skis with clamps on them and my poles from VT to Reno. I used UPS three day select, I did that for timing, definitely wasn’t the cheapest option. I also insured it for $4000.

    1. make sure that you are taking pictures of what you are shipping, inside of bag or box and outside.
    2. Make sure your measurements and weights are right on.

My original cost for the package was $137. Ya pricy but guess what delta didn’t have the chance to lose them. But three days after my skis landed I got a email from the Ass Pirates that UPS was charging me another $124 because the said my bag actually weighed 90lb instead of 40, which was Impossible and my bag grew in dimension by 6” one way and a foot the other.

I emailed the Ass Pirates immediately and filed a claim. Since I had pictures, they pulled the dimensions from evo on the two pair rolling bag and I gave them the weights for my Atris and Nocta with clamps on them. They submitted to UPS and three days later I got an email that I won the claim.

so just pay attention to that. Pictures, weights, and all that shit is important. All in all for two pairs across the country in 3 days insured, $137 isn’t terrible.

    FedEx, UPS, or Postal Service?

I’ve been using paypal shipstation. Gets pretty good rates. Better than a straight transaction through the shipping service (although I haven’t tried the Fedex account trick).

FedEx just lost my shit, tracking says

"Departed North Salt Lake 9:37 PM on 3/15"

Then no further updates, anyone have any luck getting something after this type of thing? Half expecting it to just show up randomly

Very similar experience with FedEx for an Express International shipment. Incredibly frustrating, probably 25hrs on the phone with them trying to resolve. Very challenging to penetrate beyond the call center with no ability to effect change.

No issues with UPS Ground (domestic only) or USPS Priority (Mountain Towns & Canada).

Fedex north salt lake is a known black hole - it will eventually just show up randomly sometime in the next few weeks

Fedex ground is 100% outsourced and garbage - fedex themselves cannot help you as they dont even have the info. Fedex air is still operated by them so entirely different FYI

Fingers crossed. The company that shipped issued a refund but they're going out of business, so if it shows up I guess I'll just keep it.

FedEx sucks. If you have a corporate account and do a lot of business they're great and you'll get an account manager that takes care of you. If you're an end user / recipient they are an absolute nightmare to deal with. The only way you'll make inroads is to get the shipper to deal with them. But if the shipper is just using an account through their ecom platform and doesn't have an account manager, you're hosed. Even then, in the case of damage, good luck because FedEx's insurance solutions aren't nearly as robust as UPS. FedEx also loses and damages stuff at a much higher rate than UPS does.

We ship and receive a pretty high volume of packages for our business and I track all of our inbound/outbound shipments - FedEx error / issue rate is almost 3%. It would actually be a lot higher but I manually intercept many shipments and re-direct them to a FedEx Office for pickup...I have to do that for a business address, which is insane. But otherwise they'll leave stuff out on the sidewalk in front of our warehouse after hours or on a weekend, for example. And any issue they create is a minimum of 1hr of work to resolve.

UPS, on the other hand, has an error rate of less than .1%.

So what I'm saying is, if you're just shipping one off as an individual: use PirateShip and UPS. It just works.

If you must use FedEx and it's a high value item you won't be home for - redirect it to a FedEx Office. This is free. Just make sure your ID matches the original delivery address.
