what kind of rando setup should i get?

getting real tired of hiking in stiff alpine boots with my skis on my back...

im thinking about getting some Titanals from last year, but need to figure out what kind of boots are best. I want something fairly light, but strong enough to ski all conditions, steeps, and hucks...

    thanks

    JONG--
Forget the titanals--too flimsy. Don't get anything but the Freerides if you want to ski anything burly. The others just won't hold up. I have last year's Sugar Daddies--plates removed--with freerides and it has been a killer bc setup. Light, strong, big enough--but not too big. 183 is a little short at times, but unless you're doing face-melting speed down big faces, they're money.

I once thought Max Gosey was a troll.

I once thought SandytheSkier was a troll.

I met phishshow in a chute at Berthoud. (you might have heard the story)

Having met all three, I know they're not trolls.

I too was once a alpine boot carrier with downhill skis, I have since seen the light. I have the titanal II's and ski them with the Dynafit TLT 700's, it's a nice combo for me, I'm 5'11" 170lbs. I had to work on my technique a bit to ski them well, as stiff boots overcompensate bad technique, but once I got them figured out they work just fine. I do ski more in control and make more turns with this setup than I did with my alpine, but in the backcountry you should ski in control anyways and the comfort and weight more than make up for it. If you want more stiffness you can always tour with your alpine boots on the titanals, which isn't too bad if the tours are short and the bindings are totally adjustable in between styles of boots.

With all that being said I wish I had bought the freerides.

Well the binding choice this year would be NAXOs if my informal survey at Sugarbush's opening this year means anything. I saw three or four pairs while I was in the lift line Saturday.

Then again somebody who has AT gear at an Eastern area when there is no snow in the woods and five or six trails open that require down loading from the mid-station may not be the best guides.

Exactly why phishhole is a troll.

save on skis (buy the karhu jaks at 189.00 at evogear) and invest on freerides. But if you have money and want to be a bro, buy the bromodel
