I thought the movie was great. The couple sitting in front of us brought their 5 or 6 year old boy and 5 or 6 year old girl to the movie, both of whom were fairly disconcerted by several scenes. To each their own, but I would have waited a couple of years to expose my kids to the (not terribly bad for a tween but pretty aggressive for a little kid) dark scenes.

Realized I never followed up on my initial dismissal of this film (see post #7, page 1).
I ended up really enjoying it when I saw it in the theater.
It’s vastly different from the John Wayne starring version and more accurately captures the essence of the source novel.
In retrospect, The Coens were the perfect choice to re-envision the novel (though Tarantino might’ve been interesting) as they expertly captured the droll satire and sardonic wit of Charles Portis.
If you have not read the book, I highly recommend it, along with Portia’s other novels. He’s an American treasure.
