Seattle area midweek riders?

I've been rolling solo a lot of the time midweek. Grande Ridge/Duthie, Tiger, East Tokul etc. in the afternoons and evenings before dark. I usually ride 3 or so hours. The trails are pretty quiet at that time of day but it would be great to ride and/or carpool with more people if you are planning to ride. I usually drive from Capitol Hill or even take the bus to Issaquah.

I often go out to Duthie on Wed afternoons. A Carnation area ride could also work. I drive from work on First Hill, leaving around 1:30.

I hit Tokul East pretty regular but come from the East.
Afternoons are good, sometimes I bring the dogs...
Looking to hit it this week at least once.

IMO for you to go that far you should just go to Bellingham. That said I haven't ridden there in a few years and didn't know exactly what I was doing when I did.

Its 10 min from work and where I used to live. You wont be doing 10 miles, but its a good afterwork ride as long as youre not an uphill masochist.

Worth a long drive? No.
Worth bringing your bike to work for a post work ride if youre nearby? Yes

If you ride there, be prepared for nettles; theres no avoiding them in there

out of commission for a few days till a new d-hanger arrives, but what's the protocol for never-been-there-but-pretty-good riders? locals only type deal? Definitely interested since I here it's A++ dh riding

I'm curious as well. I haven't heard anything about riding around there.

Hummm...

It's like the exits on 90 — known about but not avidly public knowledge trails. Most people are probably invited along and learn about it that way. I've only been once, and maybe could get myself back there... maybe.

The riding itself is good FR-DH. Sort of a mix of well built features n trail and shore style tech gnar DH. There are good sized moves and 4 different trails (maybe it's more now) including the best trail names ever, Dirt Reynolds.

I rode the Fork on my old Heckler last year (only bike) and got the shit pretty well kicked out of me — I was a lesser rider then. Still I'm a little skeert to go back. The Nomad will do much better and I'm a better rider now, but I'm still a bit skeert. North Fork is one of the places around here that makes me wish I had a full DH bike.

I separated my shoulder on the entrance to Duthie. Before the boardwalk...

Thats like blowing your acl on the green circle groomer on your way to the BC access gate... I'm admittedly "not that rad" and thus plenty ah skeert of thangs.

That gravel is pretty scary just before the boardwalk. Theres no grip in a turn, so im usually riding pretty slow through there.

At least you didnt fall off the boardwalk, that would hurt and suck balls right into the swamp

Yeah, but I know about the gravel. I got a new fork that came off a large demo bike so I just assumed the air in it was going to be in the ballpark. When I initiated and tipped into the turn let's just say the fork wasn't as "under me" as I had expected.

So boys and girls, when you get all excited about getting a new fork make sure you look both ways and check the air pressure before you head off for your first ride.

I'll be riding Duthie some mornings and weeknights as i get my schedule for the summer. Hopefully I can convince the guys I work with to come up to ride Galbraith and North Fork on the weekends. Having a place to stay up here is a definite plus..

anyone who can help shuttle the N.F. and is down to explore would be handsomely rewarded with a buttery, chocolatey ransom

I just had a fun ride at Galbraith yesterday with J.H. Heck, I even got sunburned. Fun trails. Dirt was tacky and perfect except for one boggy section off of orient express.

Hopefully I can convince the guys I work with to come up to ride Galbraith and North Fork on the weekends....

Now that shouldn't be too hard...though I do still need to get a more trail capable bike (and balls!).
