    Don't they have ticks and poison ivy out there?? Fishing like that in the Northeast would get you really, really uncomfortable.

    Wow, those are some amazing fish.

    On a side note, I've never really understood why in some of these small streams the fish can get so hudge while in others they stay small. I guess it's just more productive insect habitat?

    Dillon. Not one of the well known pay-to-plays. Lodge access only, I believe.

    There's usually something that adds a lot of quality protein to the diet. A big population of sculpins, for example. Also spring creeks can be choked with crustaceans such as sow bugs and/or scuds. The temperate ground water keeps the fish feeding hard on these all winter long so the fish just keep growing. It helps if the creek isn't overpopulated too. Good depth is a factor; many of these meandering western spring creeks are deeply entrenched and, although narrow, actually have a substantial amount of green water cutbanks and holes.
