Probe poles or regular probe?

K2 is offering an avalanche rescue device called the Avalanche Ball. The ball is intended to speed up the search process by allowing rescuers to visually locate the victim before beginning a beacon search.

Oh look! A $300 Avalanche chord! Is it 1970?
Old idea with a new spin. Might be of some use. Airbag pack is more usefull IMO.

The ball got the "Best of ISPO" award a few years ago. A visual that floats on the surface cuts a lot of tme out of the guesswork. I've seen the testing videos of it in real avies. It's clumsy, hard to repack, not heli-friendly, yet effective.

Yes, a long probe is nice (necessary really) for a probe line, but if your running a probe line it's body recovery mode, and I doubt is what the above user is looking to do.

true. i just prefer overpreparation rather than under. my old bc partners feel the same. for most purposes the shorter probe will work, but i'd hate to be in a situation where i needed the xtra length.
