If you can do a shuttle, I'd recommend starting at Halfmoon Creek, right around the main Elbert lot, and riding it south all the way to Clear Creek Reservoir.

I rode it from Twin Lakes to Halfmoon Creek and back as well. Have also done the loop around the lakes. You can see some of the trail right around the lake from 82, and it goes under 82 at one point. I've also parked up at the South Elbert TH, just past the campground, N off of 82. There's also a parking lot on the SE corner of the lake that the trail runs right through.

My favorite way is to ride Elbert and just continue all the way down to Twin lakes on the CT.

Halfmoon campground (trhd for Elbert and Massive) is a good access point as well. Probably easiest done as an out and back, unless you shuttle, as noted above. Really good section of the CT, IMO.

Rode Cataract and Snow Mesa again this weekend. Man I love the SJ's. Met a guy from Albuquerque who was finishing his last section of the trail yesterday (He'd been working the CT, section by section, all summer long)

On another note, thinking of riding a loop or out'n'back near summit next sunday, wondering what the best route would be (kokomo/searle). Or better yet, anyone else want to join?

anyone want to get a crew together to ride the Durango end of the trail? In an ideal world, we could get together a bunch of people and a passenger van to shuttle to Hotel Draw, thereby doing Molas to Durango in 2 days with plenty of beer and camping supplies. Ideal shuttle candidate is someone's spouse/SO that doesn't ride but is willing to drive shuttle. Hell, we could pool a few bucks and pay the shuttle monkey. Point is, I want to ride Molas to Durango sometime this summer.

On another note, I want to ride the whole CT (even the little dead end sections before Wilderness) so if anyone wants to ride, shoot me a PM. This is my CT page showing what I have and haven't ridden.

Can't make Durango for a while, but this seems like a good place to note that Georgia pass is 99% dry.

Just FYI, rode Molas to Engineer last week and there's still a fair amount of mud and snow on the trail at the higher elevations. Found/dealt with alternate routes around the bad spots but you may want to wait a while to let things dry up.

Such an awesome ride - can't wait to tackle some more bits of the CT!

Frank, keep me in the loop. If I'm not on the road for work, I'll more than likely be down.

Will do. Any way you could borrow a WSC van to help make this happen?

I think I'm going to give segment 16 a go this weekend if you or anyone else wants to join. Starting in Sargeants, up Marshall, on the CT, and down Long Branch. theoretically a loop, but I am expecting it to be a bit rocky and motoed out, similar to Needle Creek. I'll see. Love to have some partners.

Nedplimpton, thanks for the Molas info. While it would be great to do this thing pre-monsoon, I'm picturing it later in the year to hopefully get a good shuttle lined up.

I could do this in the July 31 - Aug. 5 time frame. Always wanted to do it. We could camp in the Hotel Draw/Hermosa Park area...

Frank, I am also going to take a day or two off next week to clear my head if you are interested in riding any portion of the CT in your neck of the woods.

Im coming out next week and going to attempt the whole shebang starting Monday Aug 6th or maybe a few days earlier if I can sneak out of work sooner. If anyone wants to join for all/part of it shoot me a PM. Fast touring pace, not racing. I hope to complete in ~7 days or so but I dont really care about speed and might summit Mt Elbert and ride off the summit along the way. Either that or Ill just go until Im not having fun anymore and then bail.

My first ride in CO was on the Colorado Trail. At the end I 'd decided to move out West.

Tomorrow could work, too, if that works better for anyone.

So damn stoked right now. Heading towards Molas tomorrow to ride Molas-Durango over the weekend with about 20 dudes for a buddy's bachelor party. I've ridden parts of this section before, but never the whole thing. Say hi if you see us.

A little stoke in the meantime on my "summer of riding CT."

Been really digging following your CT blog, gb. Have a blast on the ride, it is soooo much fun. If you haven't done the last section (Kennebec to town) don't forget to leave a little gas in the tank, it is NOT all downhill.

Blackhawk Pass is one of the greats. Missed it this year. Not likely to get it unless the snow holds off a few more week down there....

Found a cooler filled with icy cold cokes and snickers about 5 minutes past where I took this photo. Was the best soda I ever had. And I absolutely HATE soda. Cant wait to come back again next year...
