This was my favorite place in my time in MPLS. Mayslack's on a Friday night is real Minneapolis locals, and on Friday they serve the meat - get it wet. Lee's Liquor Bar used to be fun back in the old times. Catching a show at First Ave is kind of a must do for rock and roll history, catching a show at the Entry is always a gamble but the odds of discovering something way cool ahead of the curve makes it worthwhile and it's cheap enough that you can walk out. Skip the Gophers, unless it's hockey. Get up to Duluth and the North Shore, it is worth it, especially if you put "the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" on your iPod.

Yes, the North Shore is wicked cool. My wife and I try to go up there on our anniversary. Hiking Lutsen in the off season is kinda cool. Lots of hidden gems on the drive up the North Shore.

Nye's is pretty cool. I used to live in NE MPLS a few years back - lots to do if you know where to go. I've kinda been away from the scene for a while though. I pretty much stay in St. Paul now. My hangout usually ends up being Sweeney's on Dale. Awesome outdoor fireplace and patio in the fall. Cool local vibe, and you aren't too far from some of the trendier spots on Grand Ave.

I was wondering about the fishing, fly rod packed.

Thanks for all the info, I'm actually kind of looking forward to this now.
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

x3 on nyes. Awesome polka bar.

And I'll echo what others have said on the north shore. Hit up Gooseberry falls, duluth, lutsen, grand marais, split rock lighthouse...

My wife and I actually took our honey moon up off of the gunflint trail across the lake from canada in far northern MN. Beautiful country, and bugs should be dead or dying.

Nye's, The Local, lots of places Uptown, Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. If there's some nice fall weather, which there should be, you could cruise around a lot of these places by bicycle. There a new thing in the uptown/downtown areas where they have stands of bikes to rent. They are pretty obvious light green in color. I'm pretty sure you just need a credit card to rent one and you can return it to any of the other stands. They look somewhat jong-ish, but a nice way to cruise around town. If you like to eat out for breakfast, Hell's Kitchen downtown is good. The French Meadow or The Kitchen uptown are some of my favorites.

I'm not sure if you're into the whole halloween thing or not, but if that's your bag, there's a pretty sweet haunted house type thing downtown across the river at The Soap factory. Adults only, definitely darker than your typical haunted house. Pretty cool actually. You can google Soap Factory.

Gastoff's in NE is also pretty fun if you want to get your polka on and and have some snuff. I'll try to post more as I think of it.

Bar to watch Hockey = Champps, several locations to choose from http://www.champps.com/
The first week of Oct rent a car and head north on I35 go to the end of 35 and where it turns to 61. Drive along the north shore of Lake Superior and see the leaves changing color. It can be done in a long day trip but more enjoyable if longer. State parks along the way are awesome.

We have lots of first rate eating establishments - what type of food do you like?

Anything that's good but primarily Asian, I could eat Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese etc. for the rest of my life and be happy.

Shoot me a PM, there's more miles of trout water within 2 hours of the cities than the entire state of MT.

There's more than you could fish in a lifetime. The Willow, the Kinni, The Rush all within 1 hour of minneapolis, maybe a few mins more if 94 is busy. Then there's the Vermillion in Lakeville which could be fantastic if all the TU work takes. Did some shocking a couple years ago with the DNR and the smallest fish was 26". The Driftless region of MN, WI, IA, and a little of IL has more miles of trout water that MT and WY combined. Most of the Driftless is within 2 hours of the Cities.

So sorry but you are wrong.

The Local is a great establishment to have a cocktail or ten, they apparently sell more Jameson whiskey than any other bar in the world. The Loon Cafe is also downtown, serves up phenomenal Chili, and is a great spot to check out some hockey.

Uptown is an alright place to go out at night if you want to get away from the tools who flock downtown from Thursday through Sunday. Liquor Lyles is a good place to sit down and have a few drinks and watch hockey at an incredibly reasonable price, the epitome of a dive bar and Its less than a mile south of downtown Minneapolis on Hennepin Ave.

The Golden Gopher hockey team is a sad existence right now, down right heart wrenching. Wild games are great fun, tons of pubs right around the arena. Tom Reid's, McGoverns, and Eagle Street are all fun places before or after a Wild game. Cossetta's has great, cheap, authentic Italian food and is less than a block away from the Xcel center. Oh ya, the Liffey serves up a mean car bomb.

El Burrito Mercado in West St. Paul has absolutely some of the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Its a bit out of the way, but well worth it.

Champps sucks, dont go there. Check out the Walker Art Center, you can venture around the sculpture park if its nice out. The lakes are also great to run/bike/walk around if the weather cooperates.

This is a lot of info, I know, I've spent 25 years compiling it.

***Go to Taylor's Falls and catch the leaves turning, it's stunning and less than about an hours drive from downtown. Interstate state park is gorgeous in the fall.

I used to live literally 4 doors down from lyles. Walk out the door, turn right and walk to the end of the block. Good times.

When does inland trout fishing season close in MN? Here in WI it is basically the end of September.

Capital Grill makes to tasty steaks, but they are expensive. Brits as someone mentioned, is a nice "pub" with some fine looking women, though there are other ones I preferred more. There are also some decent Gentlemen's Clubs in the area.

If you see a guy walking with a cane leading another guy around by a leash ask for their autographs. I imagine Favre's and Childress's signatures may be worth something.

Shoot me a PM if you have a free day for lunch/beers. I work down the block from Nye's in NE and would be happy to grab some good local grub.
