THANK GOD BD's ok. That's a load off my mind. So who's in for a volunteer group this weekend? I was going to head to Magic but current events dictate otherwise. Now is the time to put up or shut up and lots of good people in VT could sure use your help.

Wow. The pics on these last few pages are amazing. Vibes to everyone affected. We had a few trees down, but that pales in comparison.
Was thinking of heading up to magic this weekend to do some trimming. Anyone know if the roads are clear, and I will be able to get there. Is it a good idea or is everything going to be super waterlogged?

I live about 30 miles southeast of White River Jct. and we saw more damage from the thunderstorm a week before.
Maybe 7 or 8 inches of rain, but very minimal damage. About the only road that washed out goes to my mom's house. 70 year old beaver dam washed out, releasing enough water to take out the road downstream.
Definite vibes to everyone who got screwed by this thing. Crazy pictures. Isn't that covered bridge in Quechee normally about 50 feet above the water? Can't believe the water was running through it.
According to the VT Trans maps, 11 is closed from Chester > Londonderry, 30 in Jamaica, and 100 between Ludlow & Weston. I'm sure there are ways thru if you want to get creative. Maybe 7 to Manchester then down 30 to Londonderry? I'd touch base with someone in the area to see whats open. DW & I found a way around when the bridge on 11/103 was out for construction earlier in the summer, but I'm about 99% certain that way is a no-go based on the video of flooding I've seen from Grafton.
Would probably head up myself, but the Mrs' b-day is this weekend so I've got to entertain her.
Bondville friend posted this route out on her FB:
For folks who may have been up over the weekend and are trying to get back home home - there is a way. This route was taken this morning by a couple of friends and they were able to get through.
From Bondville, Vermont: Take Winhall Hollow road to South Londonderry. At the four corners in South Londonderry, take Middletown Road to route 11. Go right on route 11, go past Magic Mountain, past Tater Hill golf course and than hang a right on 121. Take 121 to Wyndham Hill which will put you in West Townshend and back on route 30. Take route 30 to Brattleboro to route 91.
Not sure. When we popped out into civilization (after backing up to take that right) we were in Grafton then picked up 121 after there. Doubtful that Grafton is passable (but I definitely don't know that for a fact)
From the sound of what Lothar is saying, the best route from the south would be getting off 91 in Brattleboro, taking 30 to West Townshend, turning onto Windham Hill, then turning onto 121 at the 4 way intersection where 121 switches from dirt > pavement. That's one of the quickest ways to Magic under normal conditions anyhow.
DoWork - Thats the way I always go when we go up. Definitely the quickest way up to Magic. Not sure if 100 is passable up to Killington from there though.

It's not. Since the river runs alongside it for much of it's duration, as you can probably imagine it got raped by a big watery dick. Just trying to assemble a pic in my head of what and where is fucked and what is passable or questionable. Also trying to overlay VAST trails, dirt roads, goat paths and fkn hiking trails to figure out more options for ways in and out of a bunch of places. Looks like I'm going to get some help from my buddy's crew of wheelers too, so going to call my friend at the red cross to see where needs the most help moving supplies and bring the caravan of crawlers up there and start moving shit for them.
Anyone who wants to help but can't get away for the weekend, try to get ahold of me and I'll swing by to grab any donations you might have before I head up. All those batteries/water/flashlights and shit you stocked up on aren't doing you much good but people up there sure do need them. Also any clothes, kitchen supplies, baby stuff, or the like will I'm sure be appreciated so let me know!

Going to try to take friday off completely to leave myself some time to collect donations from people around here, I've got a few area businesses collecting stuff I've got to pick up on Thursday and friday and I'm not positive when everyone from the 4WD club is meeting up either, so basically everything is a huge mess but it'll work out. Def going up friday though.
They had a thing about the Catskills on NPR today, it sounds like there are still isolated people but it's not as bad as Vermont. I'm heading up for a hike on Saturday, any idea how I can help, Scott?
Here's some video:
edit to add: looking for a pair of AT boots for a giant friend. He's from out west but hasn't skied in the east basically. I assume he rips though, and wears a size 15. Anyone selling anything?

Just realized that tomorrow is 9/1. New roll call thread coming soon Laser?
I heard (unconfirmed) that 30 from Manchester to Londonderry is open. Not sure if you can get from Londonderry to Magic though (I know 11 is closed between Londonderry and Chester, just not sure where).
According to the Old Tavern website, the only way into Grafton is via 35 (Chester Rd) from Chester, which would lead me to believe 121 is closed...not sure if the closure is east or west of the intersection in Windham though. They also mention that 7 is closed, but that's a pretty major road and I don't see any confirmation of it on the VT Trans website.
Edit: at 6:58 I think they show sections of 121, which appear to have been a paved section (west of Windham intersection, if I recall correctly).
just posted on wildcat's twitter
