    ha!

well, when i was a thru hiker at the young age of 20, i didn't even drink beer, i mean, my trail name, "mr clean", was given to me by my trail peers cuz i seemed so, "square", to them.

all went down hill after that long walk north.

jonathan, what i really want to see is that gram scale when you weigh your wet boots!

Sharing the Mtn culture, prime coinditions, not Dirt-stained leftovers...but it's too late. Season's coming to an end. Time to start pedaling. Could give a shit what you think really. If I get a few people out on the river I know they will be forever greatful, as I am to the skiiers who showed me the light.

    (JK)

sharing a mountain culture is fine. the beauty of this TR is all about how we as new englanders have so much to share and enjoy.

now, just because your sport is, "prime", right now, doesn't mean that the ski season, to some of us, isn't. dirt stained leftovers? how bout sunny, smooth corn with good friends having a great time and beauty all around. in many ways, WAY more pleasant than october fast grass or mid winter cold skiing, for some of us.

show your stuff, it's awesome, but you don't have to jam it down our throat with all of the seemingly harsh tone that sometimes goes with it.

TRUST ME, i know i am the most guilty of that shit behavior, but day by day am seeing the light get brighter and brighter. i mean shit! i skied in a big group of folks with snow all tracked up, AND IT WAS AWESOME!

you are more than welcome to join tomorrow, dave. bring yer boat too! folks were walking all over the roads and highways putting in and getting out everywhere!

I love the whitewater stoke. If anyone wants to try surfing the river waves in Montreal this summer, give me a ring. I've got a beater board that I don't care if you bash off the rocks.

I don't care about seeing a bunch of italian motorcycles at all though

since the fly fishing has been meh with all this rain, although the flood plain paddling is awesome right now, I am heading to Otto tomorrow. Hopefully see some of you guys up there.

Dave- too bad you feel the season is over, getting my first WW boat in 15 years, going to have the kayak zen master Weasel01 teach me a trick or two. Marble works waves are looking good for drowning right about now ;o)

Nice job to everyone still getting out there and getting after it!!
Looks like for now, at least, I'm gonna have to be content not quite hitting the 70-day mark (I guess 69 ain't a bad number to be at though, ). Too much work right now has all but halted my ski season, but it's been a damned good one and after all's said and done, I really can't complain!

Jesus! Coming across the gap on sunday for my brother's grad (congrats to him for making it), I was wondering what boating that would be like. All I was able to come up with was "crazy," and you can't even see the real intense parts from the road!

Yea, Otter Crik was looking awful hudge as I drove over that fancy new bridge the other day... I can't even imagine what it's looking like by the marble works. Intense, for sure.

And I too am feelin' the itch to throw some flies, esp since I just got these new babies in the mail on friday. No more felt for me (fuck didymo!).

Hope everyone has a chance to get out and enjoy the weather tomorrow, whether it's on the otto or in the criks, get out there!

Stoke is stoke to me (except snowboarding!), but the whitewater shit scares the fuck out of me. I guess if someone didn't know anything about skiing and had a friend who died in an avy, they'd think it was scary too. But I'm definitely not over my friend who drowned at all, and don't know when I will be. I'm throwing him a memorial on 6/25 and his family is all coming in from CR, hopefully there will be a little bit of closure.

Anyway, be safe out there all.

Tempted, but the deciding factor was the drive: almost too long for me as a daytrip, and although she travels well in the car, seven hours roundtrip + Otto would really be pushing it.

So I had to settle for some old-fashioned fun with white-out and a blue marker:

Plus a whopping 380' of continuous skiing (while continuing to keep my skis on for one short sidestep over grass plus one short -- and quite fast! -- grass ski) at Killington this afternoon.
Oh well, was still skiing, if limited.
Plus fun talking afterwards with Lurker Bob (especially regarding Area 54).

Fishing has been hit or miss. As in I got 2 hits tonight and missed them both. The second was the monster I've been stalking for a few weeks now. Thick hatch tonight and the water is down and clear on the Dog. He had his way with my 4x about 2 seconds after I set the hook. He is a fucking Monster.

Otter creek is a fun run. A few good catch-on-the-fly waves, and the gorge is always interesting. Really confused water. Last summer we ran it up near 3000 cfs and at the very bottom a whirl pool opened up in front of me and swallowed me down in my little playboat, then spat me out against the wall. Not a good place to swim at higher levels. But the Otter Creek runs for a long time. And the Mad is a great beginner run that runs alot too, both the lower section and the moretown gorges. Being a newb is awesome in that there are so many class 3 runs, and every run and rapid is new. You will spend the first 2 years loggin Personal first D's all over the state. Have fun with it!

    such a great pic jonathan!^^^^^^^^^^^

ya, that'd been a very long day for the princess.

well after tomorrow, i'll be skiing monday/tuesday at tux (especially if the weather holds true). let's hook up one of those days fer sure! right side is still plenty fat for almost june.

    ski you tomorrow, TC!

dave, do you boat all summer? i mean, does stuff work pretty well after it rains moderately, or do you rely on spring snowmelt with rain added. i know nothing about what you do really, but looks really fun!

We ussually will get into a pattern at some point over the summer where the ground will become saturated over a number of days from thunderstorm activity or one big rain event, then localized thunderstorms will bring local creeks up. Generally it takes an inch plus to bring stuff up from low summer flows. It actually dovetails really well with MTBing. If it rains enough for the singletrack to shut down, rivers start to come in. When you see flood warnings posted, it's like a winterstorm warning...meaning I get all giddy. Most of the steeper creeking happens with snow melt, then again when the trees loose their leaves and go dormant and stop sucking up all the water as it falls, and we get noreasters leading up to ski season. Boating in the summer when the deep gorges and river vallies are lush and green and the water is warm is pretty much the zenith outdoor experience that I have came accross. It also has turned a bunch of negativity in my mental landscape to stoke. I used to get really grumpy when it would pour rain either on the snowpack, or on the bike trails...being the freak that I am reguarding exercise and the need to connect with the natural world very often to keep my shit together, boating has allowed me to find fun where I used to find none. Ski, paddle, pedal. Plus I have formed a much deeper connection to my local surroundings. Exploring more completely the hills and vallies makes where I live and work and play feel more like home, and my roots run deeper in and around VT and New England. Check it out, you'll love it. Waist deep POW every time you go. Even in class 3. Off for a pre work Waitsfield ride.....praying for a downpour Friday night!

TODAY, EASY SKIING THE DEEP CORN

NOAA was right. another blissfull day of perfect corn feasting today. 8/800 vert laps and the skiing got better and better as the day wore on. altho i must admit that the
1st untracked run is always a nice way to start any ski day. cover is much better than last year in there at this date, well at this date last year it was pretty much done.

run #2 of 8, i think love this t-shirt/carhartt pant time of year!

thanx austin for a great day of lappin and drinkin!

monday seems a long ways off for the next ski day..........
