thought i remembered some bad news.

i found some inconclusive threads with dead links, and rambling rants from folks. but didn't find anything that was clearly incriminating, and not just someone ranting that they got a bum deal cause they didn't read the terms of a contract.

that kind of feed back though was exactly what i was looking for... thanks matt. anyone have any personal experience?

If you are looking that way for travel or work then I would leave SASS alone. Never heard anything good.

this is the place to go, my good buddy and son's godfather helps run it and you will find no better boutique high end adventure travel out fit. Their yearly prospectus is usually 150 pages full glossy color of trips that will make your head spin. Including summer ski and surf programs in NZ and SA, lots of heli time. I have spent much time abroad with these people.

I've actually heard a really broad range of opinions on SASS. There tend to be a few very heavily read/commented threads on TGR about one person's bad experience, and then a few lightly read/commented threads about good experiences. Hardly conclusive.

I personally wonder if half the reason TGR has a few threads flaming SASS is because of the pseudo-tradition of flaming of perceived spam by a small cadre of individuals. I can't find anything about them not paying employees. Just one guy's thread about how he had some sort of problem coordinating a big trip with them and ended up losing money (where, incidentally, he ultimately deleted his own off-TGR blog post about his experience so one can no longer read his experience).

Any other opinions?

Wish we could have been up there this weekend to see you, but we're putting our house on the market a week from today and we're busy sprucing it up (did I say "busy" -- I meant ridonkulously crazy busy).

Yeah, just one. If you are thinking for travel I remember Eug and many other people saying that there was no reason to pay for a guide at all in SA.

^^ hell yea, incredible! i'd heard rumors from locals that jay mgt was mulling over doing the ski+golf thing (like K used to do), and one-up the loaf but no signs of that this morning as they called mother's day their 'last hurrah' on the website.

got the news this afternoon, as i had been thinking about what would be the best places to hike midweek, and pondered the fast-approaching end of my season...but that'll have to wait til next midweek

I dunno about sass personally but it seems like you have it figured out. I really have no opinion and was just using your post and as opportunity to plug my buddies company, which I do know about and it is way above the competition in terms of what they offer.

it's that special time of year, TC. most of the pilgrims have done the one trip for the year and are now onto summer stuff, i don't complain.

the non-pow snow doesn't get any better anywhere in the world, and it's not so dirty that you wanna wash yer hands when yer run is done, but it's just dirty enough to leave yer john hancock on the blank canvas that is yers and yers only.

thursday is looking like it may be worth the walk. i won't be riding my bike or my board on thursday. have fun tomorrow if you go. MAY THE SUN SHINE ON YOU!!!

Why are you thinking about going with a company and not solo?

Is it because you are going alone and want people to go along with?

I have spent a good amount of time living and skiing in south america. When i first went down i went solo and at no point in my trip was i alone. Staying in hostels, even a private dorm is a great way to meet other people looking to ski. travel in sa esp Argentina is cheap and easy, by bus or air.

If you want sass coaching, which i dont think you do ut there are plenty of more qualified skiiers who live and work around the ski resorts like bariloche, las lenas, ushuaia and la hoya. Local guides are top notch and dont sport xxxl tall Ts and talk about how gnar the park is.

Being in vt flying from Nyc to buenos aires can be had for under 800 round trip, (600-950) when in buenos aires live it up for a few days then follow the storms from las lenas down to ushuaia. Hostels are 10 - 15 a night, Trip from BA to bariloche will run you 80 bucks for a bed and meals along with champain and whiskey. Bus travel in argentina is awesome.

I just got introduced to ice climbing and am now stoked to do it next year. But don't know many who do it. any east coast mags aware of any forums like this one where I can hook up for some vert? I looked at summits on TGR and didn't have much luck. Seems as desolate as an 8000m peak over there.

Any links or directions would be appreciated.
