Hopefully the bad weather is only for one day like NOAA seems to be saying.

yurp can be tough snow conditions wise. very tough. a friend of mine just spent 12 days out west and got skunked while we were getting snow here. he called me pretty pissed off about it too. his flight left the day it snowed 18 inches out there.
since living in utah, i've taken 2 january trips there for 9 days each and it only snowed 3 days total of the 18. i wasn't riding lifts at all which kept me skiing deep untracked the whole time, but since then i'll never go to utah in jan again. look what happened this jan out there. junk mostly. my april trips to foofy land have been amazing tho with huge dumpage and no crowds due to the fact that alta is closed making it prime for perfect bc skiing close to the road and most of ther skiers have moved onto summer activities.
sorry for the rant, i feel your pain. now i pretty much don't leave the east at all to ski. no need, it's always good here somewhere.
morning!

it's tough to time trips out there. snows for a couple weeks, dry for a couple/few week...................................
i've got 9 days off starting monday feb 21st and not sure what to do with it. maybe here touring or a last minute flight somewhere. that warm up next week could really desperatize the conditions round here if it isn't followed by snow or more warm temps. i'd take a good week of up high warm corn skiing!
i hope it absolutely dumps for you across the pond.

I was at Alta for that rain and watched the Pats fall flat. Bad day indeed. Walked out of the lodge with a guy wearing a Sox cap and in typical NE fashion we start busting on each other about who's fault it is that it's raining at Alta, why the Pats lost, and how the world could be so upside down. It rained hard.
Next day lifts on wind hold everywhere and touring was out. Ended attempting a short tour but bailed quickly when we collapsed down into the snowpack 2-3 feet with each stride. Went bowling my last day in Utah. I suck but the beer was cold. Oh well. Sorta how skiing is. Still good to see new places, new terrain, new cultures and people.
The Passion is in the Risk
Heading up to Jay this afternoon for the weekend. First time there. If anyone wants to make some turns PM me or ask for change. ON3P Viciks, blue Westcomb jacket, flylow pants.
what's the story on rentals at magic? asking for a friend. is there somewhere down the road that is better than at the mountain itself?
ya, i've got to put a call in to craig tonight to see if my room is readyi kinda had planned to visit foofville in feb anyway. we shall see. been so good up high here, tough to leave. especially since all nh high needs is a fraction to an inch at a time to keep skiing deep and way less busy than utar.
some sun/smog could do me well tho.....................

It's the same business (snow wizards). The main shop down the road might have more high end stuff, though, I'm not sure. The main store is really right by the hill. Maybe 3/4 or so and right where you turn onto the access road, so aside from having to put your skis in the car, it's not an inconvenience at all to stop.
For what it's worth, the guy who runs the main store has always been great to me (haven't had much experiences with the shop rental guys).
Hey so does anyone here hang around Iceface? I'll be in Lake Placid area this weekend with some friends, skiing WF on Saturday, and would love to make some turns with someone who knows where they're going - I've never been out that way...
Here we go again...

Already in the Magic thread but I don't really care. Last weekend.
^^^ Damn. It was cold as hell last night too. I hope he had some supplies, at least enough to get a fire going. People need to know where they are going.
On a related note, I plan on heading out of bounds at Jay tomorrow on a path I have never seen traveled in the winter (but it does start downhill). I have been mulling over leaving a notecard or something saying something like, "do not follow - these tracks lead to a 3 mile hike out".
Anyone else ever left something like that?
