    Rental car discount code?

Anybody know any coupon or discount codes?
I need to rent a car in Charlotte, NC but it's nearly twice as expensive as everywhere else I've ever rented.

    Thanks.

Priceline is your friend. I just rented 2 cars for different trips through them (paid $10/day for a full size car on a weekend in October). Even with searching around for discounts I still got a rate on the order of 35% lower using the name your own price feature. If you haven't used it then just remember to start big with a nicer car at a very low rate. If that doesn't work then try a differnt class of car at about 35% to 65% of their published rate.

I feel like an idiot suggesting the obvious, but retailmenot? I usually check expedia the go straight to the rental place's website. That's usually the best I can do - coupon codes usually just get you upgrades, not discounts off the base rate.

Costco, Sams Club, AAA member? I've always received my best prices through them.

Are you checking rental prices at the airport only? I dunno about Charlotte but in a lot of cities the airport concession fees make renting from airport locations on the order of double the price of a location a few miles away from the airport. You might look into other locations and then check the cost of cab fare abck and forth. We ended up needing to go that route for some guests coming into DIA last year. Even with $25 each way in cab fare they still came out ahead by renting from the Enterprise location a few miles from the airport.

This is where I start for an idea of what's available for cheap:

Priceline might shave off some $ from those listings too.

Just an FYI on priceline. I used it to rent a car in Norfolk last month. Showed up at Budget to a huge crowd of people bitchin at 11pm. Budget had oversold and was out of cars and they were telling everyone that it would be at least three hours.

I called Priceline customer service in India and while they canceled my car ok. They were totally worthless helping me get a decent rate at another agency.
I got bentover by Alamo as a walkup, but at least I got out of the airport in under an hour.

I never had problems with Priceline before and have had great success with hotel rooms.
