    Monashee Powder Cats

Thinking about doing Monashee Powder Cats post-Christmas/pre New Years. I've seen it highly recommended on here. I'm assuming that it is among the most reliable cat operations in NA for snow during that time of year. Might there be a better option snow-wise? Or is that the ticket?

Its the ticket for sure. Very dependable that time of year. Actually early dec to around new years is when we get the majority of the big dumps in the area.

They are almost finished the new second lodge right now so if you do go you will have some sweet new accom and big new hot tub.

I have been quite a bit and love the place, we did 2 stags the past 2 aprils up there and the owners have been more then accommodating. Hooking us up with a keg and transporting it up to where we wanted it, food is top notch as well.

These are all repeats but it is still summer so stoke is stoke (board at work). Keep in mind that these shots are from mid april.

    Lots of nice alpine terrain

Some big drops pretty much every where

keg + gorilla = good times.

    edit:
Forgot to mention that the tree skiing is top notch (hard to beat it) and the lodge is at 5600ft or so it is usually only about a 10-15 ride up for first run.

I'll second El hefe... Pretty reliable early season snowpack. I don't think you'll find anywhere in the interior that gets as much early season snow. The Gold Range always gets the most lovin from the early storms... Up untill January. I was only able to do two days there last year. Amazing terrain, food, views...

Nope, close as the bird flys. Monashee is bigger and bigger mtns, similar snow. No mtn lodge for K3 either.

We've been up to Chatter in early Jan (first week) for the past four years and haven't been skunked yet.

    Tick-tock - only 105 days to this year's trip.

this trip needs to happen just for the inevitable TR that will follow. You never know what youre gonna get, but you can bet there will be pretty women, booze, costumes, and possible a backcountry goat (oh ya, and skiing, cant forget the skiing)

Of course it might seem biased me suggesting Chatter Creek since we do some combined heli/catskiing packaging with them, but from a purely skiing point of view they are awesome! I've catskied at several places in BC and Montana and Chatter was the best by far.

In the old heli vs. cat arguement it is often quoted that catskiing is all in the trees, but that definitely not the case at Chatter...their terrain is quite similar to ours (not surprising as their tenure is literally only minutes from our as the crow flies.
The BEST in heli-skiing: Small Groups of 4, Unlimited Vertical (i.e. no charges for skiing over 100,00ft vertical), only 4hr from Calgary (no extra nights accom or flights needed). 14 metres / 46 feet annual snowfall.
