So I've been loving my og rens since I bought them new in 10/11. The best hard charging ski for soft snow I've ever been on (though I do think anybody who loves them for harder snow is drinking a little too much kool aide). Unfortunately I had the top sheet delam on one tail this past weekend. I'll post up some pics when I get the chance but the top sheet peeled up to about 5" forward of the tail, all the way past the plastic bumpers and exposing the wood core. It should be an easy fix with some good epoxy and a clamp but still sucks that it happened.

I can't think of anything I did that day or the previous three days of skiing that would have caused this. Anybody else have this issue? Being made in the white room I can easily see how some glue could end up being unevenly spread on one ski. So if its an isolated incident, no big deal. But if it is more of a widespread problem, coupled with the gaining camber issue, maybe this whole white room full width wood core stuff ain't all it's hyped up to be.

Happened to me about 2 years ago to the day: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...06#post3184106 thought I had posted pics but I guess not.

Just had the shop put in epoxy and clamp it for a day or so, no problems since. Pretty sure it was caused by me sticking the skis into the snow to attach skins and tapping a buried rock with the tail. No problems since then (and I am careful not to do the same when skin/de-skinning and with gondolas). I'm a believer in the exposed full width wood core, mostly because the skis have kept their shape and pop.

IMO you should be able to stick your skis into the snow without worrying about them falling apart. I am a believer in the full width wood core as well, I put a coreshot to the ski right on the edge that I firmly believe it would have compressed the edge on a regular sidewall.
I don't think the sidewalls are an issue, I think the issue is in the lack of consistency. On our pairs I'm guessing they didn't have the amount of glue or type of glue they used totally dialed. Obviously there is an issue with how they put the rocker in the ski, some skis vary which IMO is not too big of an issue, but the skis that developed camber are a bigger issue to me. If my skis developed camber I would be pretty upset as I bought the ski to have reverse camber, changing it to camber + tip/tail rocker changes it into a totally different ski.

I guess the bottomline is just that the whiteroom is basically a start-up ski company, carrying the 4frnt label. They're still perfecting their building methods and ironing out the issues just like any other start-up. While I still think the skis are awesome, the whiteroom production didn't live up to my expectations of a handbuilt bomber ski like my praxis or moments.

$80 for shipping?! What the hell? I'd struggle to not jump all over those if it wasn't for that.

    Hello loyal White Room supporters,

We regret to inform you that it has been called to our attention that an issue regarding the Renegade tails has surfaced. As a small number of tail de-laminations have occurred, we are now getting a feel for the reach of this issue. After investigating for the possible root of this issue, we have determined the failure is solely related to a bad run of textured rubber material that is used in the tail fill section of the ski, not that of the entire ski or any other materials that make up the Renegade. From our direct observations, the de-laming has only affected an isolated batch of skis. If the tail on your 2012/2013 is showing signs of significant separation, please contact 4FRNT directly at (iamarenegade@4frnt.com) so we can better assist you and also learn more about the extent of our issue. The White Room is an ever evolving project, and with your help, we are constantly learning new ways to build high-performing skis that are changing the way we look at the possibilities of skiing. The positive response to the Renegade that you have all shown here is very much appreciated, as well as the constructive criticism. The White Room Staff takes pride in all of our hard work and the quality of the finished product, and without your support, it would not be such a successful project. We are taking all precautions to remedy this situation and move forward, building the quality skis that you have come to rely on from 4FRNT. To avoid propagation of any tail damage, please avoid any unnecessary direct impacts to the tail section of your Renegades. Thanks for the support!

Again, any issues, comments, concerns can be directed to iamarenegade@4frnt.com

I have to admit....4frnt has really stepped up the customer service recently. Companies especially Salomon who is a joke should learn from these. Still keeping in touch with the fan base and address these type of issues before they get stupid.

keep up the sweet azz work

Can you provide approximate serial numbers? My #845 are still fine after 20ish days. My friend's #776 (778?) has been shipped to you for this.

Take notes, Rossignol and Volkl. (re: '14 Airtip, vWerks.)

Living in Japan, the world's leader in customer service, I'm rarely impressed with service stateside. So far, 4FRNT has killed it on the communication front. Keep it up.

-email response to questions within 24 hours directly from CEO.
-Shipping within one week to JP.
-Now an actual PR statement out before rumors start flying.

Of all the gear I've destroyed or have had fail on me, this is the first time a company has actually initiated the conversation themselves making sure we're all happy.

12/13 Renegades on sale for $549 at evo.com - both lengths... Hoji in 179/195 for $524. Great deal! Thought about buying another set of Renegades but my originals are still doing great.

Rode my 10/11 at 85.74 (reused an old mount). Rode them hungover as fuck and they kicked my ass in the trees but were so stable for straight line bombing. Going to remount at 87.5 and see if it helps with maneuverability.

on the 196 again in 12" of light fresh. Excellent times as always!!!

Again - super solid on landings!!!! dropping 10-12' is effortless with these.

edit: I love these things so damn much I got a 2nd pair of 196's w/ FKS. I hope the CAST touring system goes live now!!!!

I have praxis pow 200's and 196 Rens. they are actually a pretty good compliment.
Rens are my daily for whistler. Pow's are for big dumps only.

they both have that magic slidey sideways 3d slarvey thing, it just happens just a little less common with the rens since you need the freshies. They both sort of have that really nice feeling of bouncing in and out of the snow too, and both accelerate super quickly.

The pows are way softer and kinda smear better in the deep. certainly better choice for like 40-50 cm days or whatever.
But the Rens still have some of that magic, just that you can also play around when it gets tracked out later in the day... and flat out charge!
You can certainly ski them both the same way if you want. and they both like speeeeeed! (and I like speed)

but generally... the Rens are rad. Pows are rad.
anything specific you want to know?

thanks for the comparison, that helps a lot.
there's been a lot of talk in this thread about how the rens like (or even need) to be skied with speed! how about throwing them sideways at lower speeds!? i am a huge fan of drift turns and sliding sideways and recently tested the liberty mutants, they really turn on a dime and are super loose at any speed. i am a bit worried the renegades are not that agile at lower speeds. or is this concern unjustified?
i really like skiing fast, but i also love playing around with little terrain features in the woods or wherever.

    honestly, I don't know.
I never TRY to ski slow. it only happens when I'm being a pussy.
I'm generally trying to ski as fast as I can.

But I would say the rens do actually feel playful, at least for me (but I'm a big dude, so even 196 is still probably too small for me).

    thanks so much Judo Chop!
anyone else who skied reverse sidecut skis and would like to compare them with renegades as far as playfulness and powersliding is concerned!?
