Has anyone gotten their caviar one? If so, does it look like the one in the pic on bc.com?

I'm wondering the same. When I tried to make a fuss over not getting the jacket I ordered, the guy was quick to point out that there are no photos of flame red, just caviar. You might consider asking that question on live chat on BC.com if you're thinking of buying.

My caviar better look like the one in the picture or else they are gonna get a boatload of shit from me.

Doesnt matter if there is no picture of the red one, theres one of the black one and the red one should be identical UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED except for the color of course!!

First time I hear of backcountry doing this bullshit???

Please post the outcome. If you can get somewhere with your boatload of shit, I'll push harder too. Conversely, if your caviar has wrist gaiters, I might exchange. This is definitely the first time I've been disappointed in BC.com after many years and thousands of dollars spent. After my PSA post, their stock went from 115 to 48. I assume at least half of those 67 jackets were purchased by mags who will be a little less than stoked by this. Where's wunderkind?

I picked one up as well. Not a bad jacket but certainly not what I expected. The brushed liner is tough to layer against. The hood sucks, the zipper sucks, and the pockets suck. I wrote a review. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it.

    Bummer eh?

    Lets see..

First pair, multiple tears on seams because the thread they use is thinner than dental floss and they dont even double stitch.

Second pair, the glue on the cuff welds came undone seriously within 7 full ski days, not even any stitching there, so the cuffs unraveled, I fixed it with seam seal and duct tape and it was a million times better than factory.

Then the bib started falling appart, cus again, their thread is crap.

Then I noticed the fabric in the crotch, ass, and a bit on knees starting to get thinner, it wasnt torn, but it was like the fabric was getting stretched to where you could kind of see through it. Wierd.

I get the whole lightweight euro shpeal (never had to spell that before) but better thread and slightly thicker fabric wouldnt hurt anything. Its a shame cus their stuff is well made and very well designed other than that.

The jacket is slightly less orange than the photos appear, but orange-y nonetheless. I was surprised to find that this is a completely different jacket than the BC.com site shows. I don't know if I got last year's and the site has pics of this year's or vice versa. Main differences at a glance: main zip is not welded but has double draft flaps, there are no wrist gaiters (bummed me out, that was a feature I really wanted), chest pockets are lower and oriented vertically (instead of high and diagonal). Also, the pocket on the sleeve is smaller and moved down from the bicep to the forearm. Positives: I have a 6'8" wingspan and this is the first jacket with sleeves that go beyond my wrists regardless of what I do with my arms. The cut is long in the body, too. It's about 3 inches longer in back to provide some coverage for my saggy ass. In an XL, the fit is still quite "athletic" around the torso. All the pockets are welded with a little flap over them, which is another difference from BC.com, and a welcomed change. Quality is top-drawer, really nice attention to detail. The inside is coated in a very fine fleece that feels nice and adds very little weight.

Update: just tallked to BC.com. The photos are the current model and I received last year's model. Fine with me.

I tried the Narvik Comfort Shell last year. Color was red with orange zippers and it had the wrist gaiters. Weird yours doesn't.

Uh.......shit. I'm hoping mine holds up a little better. I threw down a large sum of money on a Falketind paclite jacket & proshell pants, and Stranda pants (since the proshell ended up not fitting over ski boots,) and I didn't have a whole lot of funding to begin with, either. I would get Arc'teryx but it's really god damn expensive. I just wanted something gore tex that looks decent and will last me a long time. I have a Columbia jacket that I love dearly, but it isn't totally waterproof since it was only $100, so I decided to move up a little bit.

I've been skiing in norrona for like 4 seasons and haven't encountered any of the problems leroy has had. Their warranty dept is also very prompt despite being in norway. They sent me extra pull tabs and an extra jacket-pants connector at no charge simply because I asked. Plus if you're buying from BC they have a no questions asked return policy.

Best fitting technical outerware for the tall skinny guy period.

Definitely weird. They totally misrepresented what they were selling and I hate being the victim of a bait and switch. Bottom line is I still got a hell of a deal and I like the jacket enough to keep it for $179, even if it is 3 years old. I emailed BC to ask if they have any in stock like the picture and haven't heard back in 24 hours. My guess is they're figuring out how to handle their fuck up before responding to complaints. Anybody else get a caviar jacket yet?

    BC.com responded to Christopher's review:

    Christopher,
The reason that the jacket you received and the one we have pictured look different, is because you have the 2010 version and our pics were taken in Fall '09. I'll make sure to pass that on to our content guys to get some updated images soon. We try o'so hard here at BC but sometimes we come up short. Well fix it soon though.

Shenanigans. They're trying to say we got newer jackets than the photos, but Norrona's website shows the current model and it's the same as the photos on BC.com.

Norrona's 2010-11 catalog also has the same picture, and description, as their website so there's really no confusion on your part. Just:
    http://www.norrona.com/en/main/our-company/downloads/

I'm so glad the users are now writing and updating BC.com on what they sell. Maybe I can buy a returned w/o tags Narvik jacket on geartrade for $200 soon

Its fucking obvious that the red-flame jacket with the non waterproof zipper & zipper cover/flaps is actually the 2008-09 model. They are trying to pass old stock and being real gay about it!

Did you see the latest response from BC.com on the reviews/comments page? It's a photo of the zipper we received, purported to be "the flashy new zipper" for this year. Then why doesn't Norrona's catalog show it? And why did they do away with the wrist gaiters?

I don't think I could boycott BC.com, because this is the first time they've pissed me off. But it would be nice if they would admit a mistake...and answer my fucking email.

Also, the full Norrøna color palette is on the last page of their PDF catalogue at the link
Hugh Conway posted. That would probably be the best place to compare, and see if BC is sending the right product.

Is it possible that this was a counterfeit? I have the women's version of the Norrona Narvik as well as the pants. Mine have been bulletproof. No issues with any zippers, seems, etc...
I'm really surprised to read about these issues.
Did they stand behind the warranty?

I've had two pair of lofoten bibs. First pair lasted 4-5 years before they started to bubble around the seams. Still fully functional, but made me nervous they wouldn't be for much longer. Gtex hooked me up with a new pair, no issues.

I get in 30-40 days/year. Prolly don't have half the backseat streeze of Leroy though.
    focus.

Final update from BC.com: The caviar colored jacket is as pictured (welded main zip, wrist gaiters, etc). The flame red and teak colors are good jackets, but not as advertised. I'm exchanging mine because as much as I wanted to be flashy in red, the function of the caviar jacket is more desirable/important. For anybody waiting for delivery of teak or flame red in L or XL, there's still time for an exchange.

Now everybody go do the La Nina dance....

Doubt it. First pair was bought from BC.com, and was identical to the second pair bought from some UK retailer. If you look on the pics on bc.com, you can tell the thread is super thin and not double stitched.

I am amazed these things last more than a year for ANYONE, unless you're a weekend warrior.
