thank you much good Sir, I will certainly keep that option open! But, with all the rocks and stumps that will be showing I think the xxls will rule the day.

Doot did you look at the weather for this weekend? It is going to be in the 40s and 50s with barely any freezing. Slushy face littered with stumps, rocks and hippies is totally my bag baby!

    Last January

Just pulled some images of last January at kirkwood off the phone.

    The plan:

    From the top:

my kids keep trying to talk me into it, especially with a $10k cash prize.... slightly different type of event, but the last skierX i did 10 years ago (off the couch), i got 2nd.

anyhoo, being 10 years older and technically middle-aged, i think i am going to pass.... it will be way more fun boozing on the sidelines and watching the carnage

I think that, if you pass, it's no longer a mere technicality.

That banzai contest is a full on scam!!! They are only giving out 2 g's for first place per venue and a chance to race the douchbag who is putting it on for 10 G's. If your a boarder you can only win a mere 1300. thats only a 13 to 1 odds for the cost of the contest and id imagine that theres more than 13 riders. Some douch, Daron Rahlves, fell behind on his mortgage in Tahoe Donner n is trying to hustle some cash by holding a contest which he obviously is going to make money off of. Your better off throwing your 100 on black on the roulette table! With that said, ill probably show up on saturday to see the carnage which will be priceless!

just checked out that chute after the last storm. it wasn't even close to filled in, rocks top to bottom. You would think that after all this snow it would be good to go. so hit cali chute instead and it was great.

Someone is an angry mean old woman... I won't name names but their initials are powfiend.

for me this will be like playing a game of GNAR: as spectacular as I am, the odds of me winning are about the same as the odds Opra will get under 2 bills. I'm going to have a good time.

Rahlves may be behind on his mortgage, but I've seen his stuff... And I can't believe that guy is pro Im WAY better than him!

Is 89 open between Tahoe City and SLT? CalTrans' road conditions site seems to suggest that it is. But I've always thought that once closed, it was closed for the season.

My sons have a race at Sierra at Tahoe next weekend, and I'm trying to figure out logistics. With no snow on the horizon, the drive from Alpine might be feasible. Of course, if I'm crazy and should take 28 around the east side of the lake instead, tell me that too.

89 Bliss Bay is open most of the season. typically its high avy danger that closes it.

About an hour Alpine to Sierra.

It's only about 30 minutes longer to go around 28 if the road is in good shape.

Caltrans does a really good job of keeping their road conditions updated. They only close emerald bay when conditions are bad and there is avy danger or clean up. Should be open if it doesn't snow.

Plenty of snow pack - all consolidated into one thick layer. Firm unless the sun is hitting it and the wind is not blowing.

You may want to skip Squaw unless it is warm (or pray pray more snow arrives). Alpine has a lot of south facing lines which can get plenty soft. Neveda side of Heavenly tends to soften up first. And they have decent grooming for early morning speed runs.

    edit: Powdork is an optimist.

Still, better listen to him, as I have not felt the snow in over a week. Instead I've been staring at the sea.

we found some good sw facing stuff out of bounds yesterday. the groomers were good, and the first 200' off monument was ok. and yesterday made monday look like a beach day, especially in NV where it was cloudy all day.
    i'll be in utah.

My buddies girlfriend is a heli medic and said they were hoping to get standby at AM for the event for all the people worried about the conditions. So atleast if you wreck yourself you would have a nice quick trip to the ER.

Racoonface you bring up a good point about all the stoned hippie freehealers from AM that won't be a threat. It will be like stealing candy from a baby.
I would do it for beer Lach, but I don't think I will have the time this Tomorrow to do it, but I do have an bunch of good wax if you want any. I take back the super G skis, I would go more with a 195 XXL or B-Squad or something like that. Still the wax will be key cause at some point you'll be tucking on the flats, right?

Thanks for the update. I am actually coming out with my family. It's a trip through my borthers work. I have skied Squaw and Alpine before but this will be my first to Heavenly and Sierra. Looks like I will be hitting the groomers in the AM then looking for some soft bumps to pound.

I just watched a pretty depressing video of the conditions at Squaw on http://unofficialnetworks.com/2011/0...ason-meltdown/. The forcast was also calling for trace snow next week until today when it changed to mid 40's all week. I'm headed out there Saturday through the 31st and although we already bought a 5 day for Squaw we might try Alpine or Sugar Bowl if conditions are at all enjoyable. I see Alpine may have a few better runs than Squaw, but has anyone been to Sugar Bowl this week?

Yeah, what The Dad said...BUT there's also Montclair Ski & Sports up in the Oakland Hills. I can recommend them. Mounted our BRO's, and our other gaper ski's (bent some brakes for our B3's).

Yeah, it never softened up at all yesterday. It was surprisingly cold all day.
We'd hoped for Smoothy, but Granite Chief lift was closed "for ice".
Apart from stuff that was groomed, only GS bowl opened off KT. Only Sun Spot off Headwall. Both crappy!
We were going to hit Tower 16 (Broken Arrow), but only saw 2 other peeps over there so passed. Silverado was listed as open, but we never went over that way (it was kick-ass on Saturday. Hey Fat Bastard!). Took a hot-choc & rum break instead
Ended the day on Red Dog (tree's under the lift were closed) & Squaw Creek.
Had a bit of fun in the tree's between Red Dog & KT's East Face. Only stiff *styrofoam* but you could get your ski's down into it...a bit...

We *plan* to be at Sugarbowl on Saturday & Alpine on Sunday...

    Thanks for the report.

Well I think we might try Squaw on Sunday since that's where our friend has a season pass and we already bought our 5 day passes. I'll check back to see if it's worth going to Sugarbowl or Alpine.

Hey, the groomers were fine and all...and there were no lift lines

    It may get warmer...
Last I saw it warms up Friday, and then cools down again on Sat & Sun.
AM has the Sherwood side, which often gets a bit corned up.

    Favorite parts:

    2) I never thought that someone liking cheese would make me chuckle.

    Thanks! I needed that.

I'd like to edit my favorite parts. I liked the entire thing, I've watched it 4 or 5 times already.
