Holy ass, today was excellent. 3 hours from Sacramento, 60 of those click clacking at 40mph. On the first lift I heard some radio mumbling about Mott, and went for 6. Opened late, but they closed Comet, Dipper, and Sky due to vicious wind and there was therefore no way for all the lunch pussies to make it back over. Did powder laps there until 2. Also, did I ride the lift up with a mag in red pants on Jah Loves?

Also buttered out a landing on a huge front flip (by my standards anyway) off one of the higher rocks skier's left of gate six. feelsgoodman.jpg. Second attempt landed me in a bombhole and I damn near knocked my eye out of its socket with my kneecap. Oh well.

It was god damn blasting snow down to 4000 at least. Shaping up to be a good week, although there were an awful lot of spring breakers up there. I myself am on break next week, plus today.

Edit: I make-a duh new page.

couldn't get anyone to go up there with me today. was a bit worried about the traverse underneath anyway. hopefully it will be gone tomorrrow. seems like it rinsed out to the same look it's had all season up top.

Indeed. Great making turns with you -- and Kona, great finally getting to do so with you as well. (Sinecure, well, that's just par for the course. ;-) ) I've got to say, for an insane powder day, our impromptu crew was totally laid back, ego-free, and great to ski with.

9500 vertical feet in 2.25 hours. Had to leave before Scott opened, but hey. Rock on.

kirkwood was fun today. a bit frustrating in the morning, but later they proved they'll pretty much keep trying to get stuff open until the final bell.
    you know it's deep when

okay, here is a photo that captures in 5 hours the amount of stoke that has been hitting Tahoe the previous and current week.

Parked at 9:30 AM at S@T Sunday with a clean car. Returned at 2:30 PM to find this. 5 hours!!! Extrapolate and insert gratuitous face shots and laid out backseat slarves where necessary.

There are now parts of the cut-bank of the Spur that are well over 15 feet above the road, and even at Peddler Hill the banks are over 10 feet in places. Holy wow ... this thread should be bumping into July with all this snow!

Color me bummed if you were at Rose and I didn't get to meet up. I skied with Corky and a couple other guys who rip. Rose was sweet, and they had lifts turning (Squaw I'm looking in your direction) and our last two runs of the day were in perfect boot deep almost untouched tree runs... Rose has totally delivered this season.

Hey All - Taking a couple of weeks break from traveling, and lucky for me, this week in Tahoe should be phenomenal! Fun to see all the regulars posting...anyway, I'm staying in SLT and am up for riding at Sierra or Kirkwood - anybody else up here this week? Would be very cool to carpool as well! Thanks

Last run down Lower 40 was absolutely amazing. Tomorrow first chair-ish on Summit with housemates and hopefully some maggots. Green Jacket, Black pants, white helmet and Lhasas.

Some pics of first chair and another ski instructor sending the big cliff (Hollywood?) at the top of Scott Chute (between the main entrance and the cornice entrance (arch pine). Big drop. Fun to watch. You can see his dreads flying behind him.

Note, the Sheriff's can't ticket you if you go through an open gate and don't need a rescue.
I wonder what happens if your just in the back country and need a SAR, do they write you a ticket for that also?? I can understand there frustration with the number of people calling for rescues but something about handing out a fine even if you legally went out a gate doesn't smell quite right and may be legally challengable.

Glad I was able to ski out of there on my own on one leg over the weekend after pile driving my knee into a stump after hitting something just under the snow surface. I did have all my back country gear including skins so I guess I could have argued that I skinned up, maybe another reason to to be geared up in the side country besides all the other obvious safety reasons.

Sinecure was kind enough to text me that he was fourth chair on Summit this morning.

I responded the only appropriate way, with an anatomically impossible suggestion.

The sidewalls at Carson Spur were pretty high yesterday afternoon. Note the plough in front of the SUV for reference.

Good times at KW yesterday (minus the chair 6 fiasco). Hope somebody is getting thundersaddle today .. would be nice and deep.

EDIT - tried to add image.

The reports are one thing but the photos are killing me! Glad you guys are scoring.

Unfortunately my season is quickly getting derailed and no end in sight. Hope I can get these derailments behind me and get some good pow before corn season.

    Anyone have details on this?

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says they've found a second person after an avalanche this morning at Mount Rose.

As we reported earlier, a skier was already found injured in the avalanche this morning and CareFlighted to a local hospital. The extent of injuries is not yet known.

That second person is a friend who went searching for the skier and was uninjured in the avalanche.

We have a crew on the scene and will bring you the latest as we learn more.

Damn. Hope everyone is okay. I saw a few cars there this morning. I was on the verge of sending an email to see if anyone was up for a dawn patrol last night.

It was across from the ski resort per news.

Dawn patrol.....mmm......let me know and I'll start the ascent at 4am so we can rendezvous at the summit at 7am.
