For DADS: New 93cm vs. Old 80cm skis -

Have some 80cm skis for my boy and just got a deal on some new Dynastar 93cm for the coming winter. Check out the difference in length overall and the mounting point. Granted the 80cm ski is maxed on the heel track but what a difference. Is anyone else surprized by this?? Guess Dynastar builds them all XXL style.

Can you make the pics any smaller?

My son is on the same ski, same length. And his older old ones look like your sons older ones, much less ski behind the heal. It's all good. I'm guessing the shape to the ski lets the mounting point be more truly in the middle of the ski without running the risk of the rider over-engaging the edge along the tip, which would end badly.

Just a tip. I plonked my son in 10cm of fresh the other day; instant tip dive. You might want to get a powder ski for your little ripper also?

fist off, how old and tall is he? how many years has he been on snow?

the bigger skis are lighter and have a smaller tip - meaning lower swing weight. Went through this with my older boy (now 7) and at 2 and 3 switching to the more modern skis made a huge difference. Fist off, he could walk in a lift line just due to the weight savings. He started to carve at 5 on groomers in soft snow. If they are the right size, then do not waste his time with old school straight skis.
