180 Degrees South was absolutely phenomenal. Watched it twice. Incredibly inspiring and beautiful storytelling.

Watched the Documentary "Salinger" about J.D. Salinger (obviously).

It was well done and offered a lot of insight to a man I only knew as the writer of Catcher in the Rye and a recluse.

    Room 237.
Documentary about Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining.
If you like the film you should enjoy this feast.

Totally off the wall crazy documentary with multiple theories, subliminal and literal subtexts with conspiracies, delusional errors, and playing the movie backwards and forwards at the same time trying to figure it all out.

Taken with a grain of salt, overall a cool cheesy documentary.

    SOUND OF NOISE

crazy Swedish film about a sonically challenged police officer on the trail of a group of audio "terrorists". the first movement, "Doctor Doctor Give Me Gas In My Ass" is amazing.

Speaking of crazy Scandie movies, my wife and I watched "Dead Snow" a couple weeks ago on Netflix. Pretty funny Norwegian slasher movie.

I was a bit disappointed. Too much Enviro-talk, not enough surfing and action.

I enjoyed the 'The ghost and the darkness' a true story about man-eating lions in colonial Africa...

also, 'The Bounty' (1984) Starring Antony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Danial Day-lewis and Liam Neeson I doubt we'll ever see the same level of acting talent on a same screen again.

I'm Watching 'Ken Burns presents: the West' now, it's fucking awesome, if you love the story of the west

    BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW

visually and aurally mesmerizing, this is a strange, rather abstract psuedo sci-fi flick that is probably best viewed in an altered state of mind. although i'd say if you are prone to seizures you might want to skip it as it's teeming with muy trippy visuals, lots of light, and undulating sound. it definitely borrows a bit from late '60s and early '70s sci-fi films, especially in terms of its look and style (think production and art design), but it's on its own trip.

    GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR

Tarantinoesque romp through several bars in Los Angeles featuring Carla Gugino, Rosario Dawson, and that Sloan chick from Entourage (she plays a stripper, no less). Great dialogue, some wonderfully absurdist moments, and a loose, from the cuff noir vibe.

The trailer makes it out to be a bit more campy than it is, but the cast is stellar and the pacing is nice.

Looks like season 8 of It’s always sunny in Philadelphia just became available. Haven’t seen any episodes yet but I have high hopes...
