Man I just watched don’t look up and it was really good. Super fucking depressing, but so brutally accurate about the world we live in.

The whole movie is an example both of Mindy's point in the last RIP rant and of the futility of skipping that media training.

The villains were so hard to watch that my wife couldn't stand it by the end--intentional, but still less watchable as a result.

I used the downtime to think about what's happened to comedy. They left plenty of time for that and it's almost as depressing as the commentary on science: whatever they were parodying, the result is way more palatable now. The pacing and shortage of real funny moments/running jokes hurt (the snack pack sidehustle was lonely). It came off as a little lazy to pander to peak angst without bringing more to it. It didn't hurt the great farces of this type to be funnier. Still, I thought it was decent, and that makes me sad.

I hear ya. I don't know about you, but personally I was rooting for the comet. #TEAMCOMET!!!

Earth could use a solid reboot or total snuffing. Either way, we kinda deserve it.

I heard someone say that we are in this perilous couple hundred years where we are smart enough to destroy the planet, but we aren’t smart enough to not destroy it.

    Don't look up. Must see.

Unbelievable how a movie about ?climate change? is so pandemic spot on.

Levity to the world we live within

    I watched it.

    It was a good.

    But it's no Mars Attacks.

I agree. It's a must see but not necessarily for the upfront entertainment factor which I thought was somewhat lacking. No Mars Attack and certainly no Buckaroo Bonzai.

You know something is bad when a RomCom is better. How'd you get sucked into watching that?

You are too generous; no serious RomCom watcher wants anything to do with that bloated carcass. So sez my wife.

I'm about halfway through Don't Look Up. I don't know that it's a masterpiece, but it's pretty solid as a political-media satire. Gotta love how the presidential admin is basically a bridge between the one in Idiocracy and the real life one a year or so ago. No judgment yet of course about the movie's second half, wherein I suppose things turn ugly.

I thought that Meryl Streep’s president could have been Trump or Hillary

^ That they went with a president with a Hillary-like personality is definitely noted. Certain specific things not related to personal style are aimed at Trump (and his admin) though. And some stuff is just satirizing modern politicians. I think they deliberately did the Hillary look to avoid a "Trump sucks!" message intruding on the movie's main points.

My wife thinks the role was cast with a woman to make the president's actions appear even more despicable.

Obviously, my wife didn't read the pronouns thread.

For a real feel good movie I recommend you re-watch "Apocolypse Now" which is over 3hrs long cuz they added an extra 49 minutes, thats like almost half a normal movie, I'm not sure exactly what they added ?

its been awhile since i watched the original, I thot it flowed > came off a little different than the original

maybe a movie about a dark subject instead of just being a dark movie if that makes sense ?

Added scenes with the playboy bunnies and also a dinner party with a colonial IIRC. Didn't add anything if you ask me. I recommend watching Hearts of Darkness, the documentary on making the movie. Insane behind the scenes stuff.

I definitely didn't get don't look up. Feel asleep and ended up turning it off. A few cheap laughs I guess.

Maybe you need to be American.

Just watched the first episode of Arcane. I'm intrigued enough to watch a second, but not yet sure I'm all in.

lol, IMDB 9.2/10, Google 98% like, Rotten Tomatoes 100% critics, 97% audience. But buttflake says it's garbage and I shouldn't bother.

I guess I'll find out where I land!

    Netflix: instaView rec's

By episode 4 it’s like why am I wasting my time with this crap. For real, it’s not good. If you liked Speed Racer as a kid, maybe you will like it. I hated Speed Racer.
