I'm going to reply to myself because I just looked at the Mammoth webcam:

    http://www.mammothmountain.com/cams/index.cfm?cam=main

If you hurry you can see the snow falling!!!!!!

Also Mountain High is talking about opening early next week!!!!! Any SoCal Maggots want to take off a day and play "dodge the gang-banging gapers" with me?

    Anti -

I am dubious about mtn. high's prospects but let's keep an eye out. if it's a go, i'd be up. i'm downtown - you been there - so maybe i could hitch a ride up. gas $$ on me, of course.

MtnX191 - If they open I'd be more than willing to give you a ride (assuming you're who I think you are. I've given you a ride to a Maggot meeting before, right?). I'm thinking opening day might not be the best time to go (really crowded), but a day or two after that would be good.

    You driving?

MH IS a shithole, granted, but a shithole that now and then serves a purpose.

    Scratch that itch.

(I've sworn that same oath a FEW times, too.)

I'll second that. However, is Broadway that great of a run that it's worth driving 5 hours for? (Mtn High will give you 1000 feet of vert which is about the same as Broadway.) While we're at it, an afternoon/evening at Mtn High is a lot cheaper and easier. Mammoth will be as crowded if not more crowded too.

I LOVE Mammoth. A truly GREAT mountain. If I could live there, I'd be there. But I've been there first weekend of the season and while I am all for the season-opening stoke, I have a pretty good idea of the scene. And absolutely, it isn't all about snow quality, etc., but...well, you get the idea.
    Gotta echo what AntiSoCal said.

Not bein' a buzzbuster; I know everyone'll have a kickass time; just that I guess I'm pickin' my spots more than I used to.

Bottom line, Tical. I DO hear ya, but Stump Alley/Broadway might not be all that different from Madame High, bitch that she can be.

Anyway, I'm flapping my gums too much.

S'pposed to rain tomorrow. Let's hope it's hard and keeps coming down, get some snow on these SoCal hills.

I do hope to meet maggs/minions at Mammoth sometime this year.

I gotta agree. but I've had some really fun days at that "shithole". Mostly skiing in the canyon between East and West on powder days. Or skiing dark closed runs on powder nights.

T-minus 6 days to my first day of skiing for the season....

Just lookin out for ya guys..

I hear Mammy might have more than 6 chairs running... And we might actually have a storm coming in (Thur-Sun) So we might have some fresh pow... Dont know how true that is.. I will be happy with just Broadway/Stump.. Also, I have a season pass, and am headed up with some friends so the money issue is not such a biggie...

[edit]Removed 2 paragraphs of shit talking about Mt High.. Everyone knows about that place.. [/edit]

Big Tim, I have never hit the canyon between the two sides.. Thats sounds like some fun..

Anyways, even though I am tempted to join you guys, I dont think I will break my oath just yet.. Have a great time dudes..

Just checked Mountain High's website and they're opening on Monday!!!!

MtnX191 - If you want to go, I think we could arrange something this week. I'm kind of leaning towards a late afternoon/night skiing adventure, but I could probably be persuaded to take a whole day off too. My email is matt_allen_g@warmmail.com (note that the domain in my email is an understatement intended to ward off evil spammers). Since I'm not usually online on the weekends, don't expect a reply until Monday. If anyone else wants to join us, let me know.

Who's still planning on being in Mam opening weekend? Where's the meetin' spot?

On the subject of Mtn. High: does anyone know if they are still going to hold those skier X events every other weekend or whatever? I checked their website, but all they show are the USASA border X events. Ditto for Summit and Bear - anyone have any info?

I'm not sure Mountain High ever really held skierX events. I think they always had the USSA boarder X events and let skiers enter (although from what I understand there were never more than 2 or 3 skiers at each event).

Did you get that warmmail = hotmail? I was trying to keep the email away from spammers, but I may have been too cryptic for my own good.

edit - Oops, I guess warmmail really is an email service (I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't sued them).

Yeah, there were only a couple of skiers at the thing, and I knew one of them, but he never had to race against boarders. He did say that the other skiers were pretty gaperish though. I just read the USASA events that are going on at Mammoth in January. They call it a "Boardercross" event, but if you read the fine print, it says they will be having a skiercross event too. What the f***? They can't just SAY that they're having a skiercross event too? They have to sneak it in under the guise of a boardercross event? They act like they don't expect anyone to enter. Whatever.

Anyway...yeah, the big-ass map at the bottom of chair 1 @ 1 on Friday sounds like the plan for me.

Does it feel unusually cold to anyone else in L.A.? I love it, but it was like 90 last week. Snuck up on me. Whacky-ass weather.
