Just throwing my $0.02 in as well. Just to say I'm in agreement with small groups. No way would it be any fun to ski with a huge group in those lines.

If it comes down to it I would be willing to lead a group over at Smuggs or off the backside of big spruce.

Today wasn't bad but kind of wierd snow. The initial snow we got yesterady was so wet that it got pretty crusty as the temps fell and lighter stuff piled on. So it was like 3 inches of fluff on top of semi breakable crusty mashed potatoes. And the bros slayed in it.

The backside of Spruce looks interesting. Need avy gear? Also, can you take Smuggs lift back up?

No avy gear. Can ski the notch road back to Stowe, some walking required.

No dice on the smuggs lifts unless you buy a tix.

The road from the Smuggs side back to Stowe isn't so bad, on skis. Just about slide down to or past the bottom of Hell Brook and then a little shuffle and you're back by the Gondi, that said multiple laps without a Smuggs ticket would be a pain in the ass. There is stuff a bit closer but I'm thinking we need some serious snow for the best of it, and a good crew. Some of you may know the lines I'm talking about, great skiing but serious exposure from the ice this season. I'll check things out a time or two before the summit to be sure, as well as a few other less skied lines in the area closer to Stowe.

You can also buy a one-way lift ride @ Smuggs for like $5 - last time I went to buy one and they gave it to me for free.

Really? Was this, this season? I guess i never really looked because well I have a pass. But just so nobody gets screwed on the Smuggs side I'll go and check it out at the ticket window. And a couple more inches to soften it up this morning and still snowing.

I am in great physical shape, and can ski run after run after run w/out stopping... but my skiing skills generally suck. I could seriously hurt myself in double black diamond woods. However, I know I can make it through semi-tight woods w/ a bit of a pitch. I think it's up to the person to honestly tell their ski buddies what their limits are, especially if they've never skiied together before.

And be ready for a surprise here & there! This has happened to me before where somebody tells me "don't worry, it's not too bumped up!" and it's volkswagon moguls which I cannot ski. But I always manage to pick my way out of really bad situations like that. What I don't like about it is the time-suck aspect. I could be doing 5 fun runs which I could handle during the time I'm picking my way out of a white-knuckle scenario. But I guess you learn something there too, so it's okay.

Bottom line is: I think the best plan is pick a group to ski with. The group will naturally break into "faster & better" and "less faster and better." And I think people are cool enough here that they will wait up and help ya out if you need to take it easier. I found this to be true when I went to the Tahoe summit, and skiied w/ folks who were light years above me in ability but still took the time to slow down and ski w/ me and help me out. There is a certain reward that comes w/ helping a lesser skier along to push a boundary or teach them a new skill. I am sure many folks here will rise to the occasion and do that.

Even now with better woods skills, I'm a bit out of shape and couldn't ski 2000' vert of technical woods non stop...but am still fairly fast and agro. Should start running again this week, ack. Anyway - are some of you guys fucking animals? I know some of you are not exacty rippers, not to diss anybody. Guess it will all fall out....look forward to skiing with some people that will push me.

I'll hang with you guys then. On a different note, I'm looking forward to watching and learning from better skiers. There was not too many of those in Kentucky. On the stoke side of things, it's gonna be a wide open time. I even held off going to colorado three days earlier, just so I could attend.

thats pretty cool apex. stoked people are stoked.

lets not start self segregating here. the place isn't that huge. i'm guessing most people will end up sharing runs with pretty much most people.

I was largely kidding, as I'll be charging into the trees like a perturbed rhino. We'll see how that works out.
