if you are seeing this BCR, you know I and I am sure plenty of other folks will be happy to chip in/raise money for domain reg and hosting!

forgot to register the domain name eh? Freakin' snowboarder!

LOL, I had a nightmare last night and some tele skier cyber squatter came in and took it over and required all splitboarders to convert to hard boots and descend in touring mode only.

    Should I seek help?

:-) Glad to hear it'll be back soon...I need my fix too Shralph.

Thanks for the thread Schralp! I've been pretty distraught the last two days.

Long story short, it wasn't about the cost of renewing the domain it was about keeping (or lack there of) my contact info current with my domain registrar. There's really no excuse but in my own defense I keep telling myself that juggling a family, full time job, and running splitboard.com as a one man show is a full plate. It really doesn't help though, I still feel like shit and embarrassed on how unprofessional it is.

I hope to know in the next few days where I stand. Communicating with the registrar has proven less than helpful. If anyone has domain legal service experience please let me know.

In the meantime, all the site data and forum info is safely in tact and can be found here:

    http://www397.pair.com/bcrider2/talk
    http://www397.pair.com/bcrider2/site...oard_Home.html

Its running with limited working links right now but if you add http://www397.pair.com/bcrider2/ where splitboard.com would go it will redirect you to the right page.

Thanks for the support and I apologize for all this.

    Thanks bcr.

No apologies necessary! You don't owe me or anyone anything. I appreciate the whole kicking yourself in the butt distraught attitude ... but dude, let's put things in perspective. When you started the site 5 years ago it wasn't about how professional and perfect you would be, it was about starting a cool place on the net to share info and get a community of people stoked about boarding in the backcountry. Just look how far that little project has gone, with all the Norway, Japan, German, even freaking Hawaiian forum members! So you should smother that distress with a whole heaping of pride too!

I was just asking about cost because I don't know how much effort you've taken to isolate your site expenses as a separate entity from your personal life, especially during the whole time you were funemployed. And you should also know that folks like me are indebted to the site as a learning resource in getting out into the bc. As such, we're always willing to help where we can.

Unfortunately I have no experience with web registrar stuff ... maybe PM powdork or TyWebb as I think they might have something useful to say?

Thanks again Schralp but it's impossible for me not to take responsibility for this. I really fucked up this one.

    BCR,

Did somebody steal the domain from under you when you let it lapse, or am I misunderstanding things? I don't suppose you have the name trademarked?

Steal is not the word, take advantage of my mistake is a better way of putting it.

I'm so bummed that all my years and effort are gone for something so little (yet obviously important) as not keeping my contact info current.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make an offer to buy it back, if the new owner plans to launch a new site, or if I should register a new name.

Yeah, this, I hear, will be well attended. Does anyone know if they had any luck getting any type of demos or splitboard rentals for the event or if there is a good place in the Seattle area to contact about that (maybe 2nd ascent has some voilie rentals still?)

Know a lot of local boarders interested in trying it out if there were demos or rentals. Seems like the biggest barrier for snowboarders getting into splitting is the gear transition/ upfront expense from snowshoes to buying a split, skins, etc?

thought it must be a domain thing. Right when i'm in the middle of DIYing my board too lol ...

that sucks bcrider. do u have a copy of the site archived? always a good policy, but, if so, grab another domain and we can spread the word on the site's "new" location. Domain name parking is a bummer.

on the flip side, if the site is dead, I sure am grateful for everything i learned on there in the short time i was posting. My first split, DIY, is coming along great and I CAN'T WAIT to get skinning.

    Thanks bcrider.

So someone stole the domain name out from under you? That is weak. If I had any hacking skills I would definitely shut that shit down until it was returned to its rightful owner- BCRider.

Anything we can do to help?

but if not, i for one would be able to easily start using a new website instead - no biggie.

can't wait for splitboard fest - wishing it was this wknd instead since Mt. Baker is getting nuked this wk. hopefully it dumps again with a few days of clearing and settling afterwards for the actual festival

If there's anything I can do please let me know. I'm gonna PM you right now.

So since I've already put a non-refundable deposit on the house for the "Kalifornia Eastside Split Party", I'm hopin everyone will continue to respond to this thread:

    http://www397.pair.com/bcrider2/talk...p=62060#p62060

Please tell all your peeps splitters! Either it's gonna be me and a few friends in a fat pad on the eastside and I'm out 2k or we're gonna rise above and enjoy one of the deeper Sierra snowpacks in years! I was up there this weekend and it looks epic!

I've a feelin' we're still gonna get a great turnout...but seriously start PMin on here, teletips, emailing, and calling will ya? Drop me a PM or email me at myscreename at gmail.

I like the idea of bcrider dot com. A BC rider is more and more often a splitter, making the name fitting.

Also one of those who will chip in if there´s a pot. Haven´t been active on the original site for quite some time, but will be again, soon.

Thanks for your work and effort so far, BCR!
