Like Basom said Jay is way the hell out there for most of the maggots and given the fact that EC conditions can range anywhere from 12" of fresh snow from the nor'easter that just came up the coast or it could torentially rain or be -60 degrees.

look at the map which shows most of the mountains that are within reach of most of the maggots who tend to cluster towards the bottom of the triangle formed by Burlington, NYC, and Boston. Maine and NH are Whiteface and Gore. I doubt that any of the maggots are going to hang out at Stratton, Okemo, Bretton Woods, Ascutny or Bromley so they don't make the list. Jay has been eliminated from summit contention because of its distance(would be a good mini-mini summit). That leaves us with the following mountains availible for summit hosting duties. Killington, which is eliminated because its to crowded and for every maggot who skis there there are two that want nothing to do with it. Magic, which is eliminated because it doesn't have reliable snow. Pico is an interesting option but gets eliminated because it doesn't have enough terrain. So that pretty much takes care of the southern VT options. Moving on to the north, MRG is eliminated becuase it was the summit site last year. Sugarbush is eliminated because for whatever reason nobody wants to go there. Smugglers Notch is an interesting possiblity but I think the snow is better at other places. Which leaves us with the eventual summit location of STOWE, which is where it will be and nobody will attend because like all EC get togethers everyone will have something better to do because unless we all lock in lodging/packages theres nothing forcing us to go.

edit with an apoligy to all the maggots who unlike me DID show up to last years mini at MRG, I don't know why I typed nobody showed up

I will remember to post first, then smoke crack

    #1 what Bill said

#2 Smuggs is less than 5 miles from Stowe and gets virtaully the same snowfall, has better inbounds terrain and doesn't groom the shit out of everything. The lifts are painfully slow however.

    Might I opine?

Since I've bailed for 2 years in a row, I really have no place to talk, BUT:

We go through this every year. As basom said earlier, at this time last year, there was a couple/few dozen ppl who said they were in, but it ended up being a HALF dozen.

    A couple thoughts:

    1. Either pick a leader or someone volunteer to bring this shit together.
    2. Dates - we're all talking about how far OUT it is, but we've still only got it narrowed down to a 1 month window. That "someone" needs to pick dates.
    3. Once dates are selected, it's going to be a HELL of a lot easier to figure out lodging. Again, that "someone" and their little helpers can bounce a few emails about group lodging, tickets, etc.

[brit accent] It all rather falls into place after that then, dunnit? [/ba]

Unless people are going to be out west or in Europe, there's no reason they shouldn't be able to make this. It's the height of ski season. I don't wanna hear any "some people have jobs" crap. You're a pushover if you can't work it out with your manager to have time to ski during the height of ski season.

On a side note, let's start getting some other ideas rolling. Anyone interested in a trip to the Eastern Townships during President's Day Weekend?

This is cool, I quoted my own post (that's because it showed up at the beginning of the thread instead of the end, wtf?). How bout's we get a poll going for what weekend: last weekend of feb, first, second, or third of march. How's that sound? I can't take the lead until after christmas time because I'm busy with applying to grad school, but afterwards I'm willing to work my ass off to make this happen.

I wouldn't mind helping OUT, but I figger someone who's more of a "local" *cough basom, bill cough* would have an easier go of it & would certainly know more about the "scenes" up there...I haven't lived in MA for 13yrs & my NE ski trips have consisted of day trips here & there, so I'm kinda outta the loop....

it was my impression that for this kind of thing we just show up and ski, right?

in any event i have zero time for organization other than making sure i will be there at a certain time with all of my ski equipment. but just as points of conversation, are people expecting condos, discounted group tickets, and a private apres ski party with lots of hookers and blow or what?

last year at MRG we showed up, had a really fun day of skiing, got kicked off the single lift, and then went down to a bar and chilled for a while. that worked out great.

i surely cant do much to make this happen, those who have seen my sock drawer will understand.

i think that this shouldnt be a democracy anymore.

i also think that we should somehow get crazy dave AND his bus involved. yeah.. jay is far, but a percocet, thermarest, and a sleeping bag.. makes the 8 hour drive go by pretty quick. meanwhile, dave pounds redbull all night up front for some cash (and we do joke about him being crazy dave a bunch.. but hes a good guy). we could get all the ny mags on the bus, and make a few stops on the way up - either hartford or albany to pick up more people.. and there we are. he even has a house we could all crash in for a nominal fee. that said, who wants to go all the way to jay if its not getting pounded? id almost suggest we wait and see how the season turns out snow wise.. and set something a few weeks or a month in advance. its not like any of us have to buy plane tickets anyways...

Well - I wasn't suggesting it become a full-time obligation for the next 4 1/2 months, just figgered you'd have a better handle on the scene up there.

(Are we really only talking about a 1-day get together? I was thinking more an actual Mini - like 2,3 days...Help me help you..)

Also - the issue of the filming..Gonna be a clusterfack if it's only a 1 day deal..

    Committment scares you.
    Skiing, chilling, it sounds good.
    Why NOT hookers, blow?

i don't have a handle on shit, other than my pass and a couch 75 miles south of there.

i thought the general consensus would be a weekend affair, with folks who had travelled farther maybe taking a monday or friday as well? the way i see it i'm guessing most of us are going to be somewhere reasonably nearby (or SUGARLOAF if you're cantdog) most weekends anyway. so wouldn't it be easiest to just everyone meet somewheres and ski, with perhaps those who are travelling/don't have a place to crash on the weekends working out a place to crash together?

correct me if i'm grossly misunderstanding people's skiing arrangements for the upcoming season, as i've been microfocusing on getting my situation and gear squared away and had some blinders on.

has there been any sort of coordinator in the past mini's? in addition to all this planning someone should step up and take charge of hashing out the details and making the final tallies... e.g. buzz compiling everything into that first post and i'm guessing doing most of the legwork for the utah mini.

Bill offered to arrange some private apres thing featuring hookers and blow at his discount condo with all of his ski equipment.

    I think he's waffling now.
