Thumbs up Pics From Duck Hunting (Warning: Dead Birds in Pics)

A few pics from a duck hunting trip on the Lost River near Mackay, Idaho. The river seen is the Big Lost River, the mountain range is the spectacular Lost River Range which is home to Idaho's tallest peak, Borah. If you can't stomach dead things, be warned there are a few dead birds in the pics below, but nothing too graphic.

Paco, reporting and ready for action!

Nice shoot'n Tex (should also be put in the padded room thread). I can't hit a duck to save my life, but am fairly proficient at ruffed grouse, which a lot of people say are harder to hit.

Is Paco a Chessy? Gotta love Chessy's. No other dog in my opinion is a harder worker when it comes to duck hunting.

Heh. Paco is a chocolate lab but definitely looks Chessy at times. And I'd say quackers are about 100x harder to hit than grouse, so don't feel too bad. Grouse fly like ducks in extreme slow motion.

A friend of mine has a chocolate lab that is 9-days older than my black lab pup. We have a rivalry as to which dog is a better hunter. So far my black is better at retrieving (she can do a double marked retrieve), but I think his chocolate has a better nose.

It's not the speed of the ruffed grouse that make them hard to hit. It's the fact that often surprise you when they flush and they usually flush in dense cover of popples (aspen). At least I have all next week to practice shooting.

I gave up duck hunting when I couldn't figger out a way to disguise the taste of the muddy bastids. Actually, fooled myself into thinking I liked it for a few years.

Great pics Rev...was up on the Salmon between Shoup and N. Fork for 4 days this week...really made me miss that part of the country.

Spent alot of time wandering the Big Lost tossing bugs in the early spring months...great place!

Heh. I just cut it up into bite sized chunks, marinate the shit out of it with all sorts of spicey goodies like schezuan sauce, chili flakes, Red Hot sauce, etc. for 48 hours, then cook it with bacon, water chessnut, jalepenos and creamcheese over the BBQ or via the skillet. You can't taste the gameyness at all and it's actually really good. I've been eating duck for dinner for 8 days straight now. Getting good at mixing it up.

Oh, I hear you. But last time we had a hunting thread, Dipstik almost cried and Darkside whined like a 3 yearold girl. So I thought I'd give them a heads up. Can't please everyone all of the time but you can try to warn them, I guess?
