Thats just fucked. Cancel Nasa funding. Focus on global warming. As China and Russia pass us by in Areospace research and contribute largely to global warming the US is suppose to be researching. Just fucked.

The healthcare thing is the end of him. He has good intentions, but he's wedged in between failing on the Democrats' promises and pissing off the majority of Americans who don't support it. I kinda feel bad for him.

The rest of what you said is intelligible.

I'm probably really going to regret this BUT......

so if the President does what you all says he's going to do, does that mean that for all eternity it will always be thus and so and there is never ever a chance of undoing this? Does it mean that this is the nail in the coffin?

Hmmmmm, hasn't some of what the last President did already been changed by the current President and hasn't that been the case throughout time?

I dunno...after allowing myself to get worked up over politics in the past and running around like it was all true and that we were doomed I have found all that ever accomplished was to upset ME and waste MY time.

    *shrug*

I know you all are upset and all but come on man....take it to the appropriate forum.

Russia? You miss the past 2 decades? Even Aeroflot is buying Boeings.

Actually, yes for a large part. This isn't like cutting funding to a social program. When you have a HIGHLY technical institution and industry like this, if you cut it out, it shrivels and must be regrown like an oak tree. You shut it down and the field loses expertise and experience. It goes away down the brain drain. New people don't enter the field and learn (why get a BS, MS, PhD in that?). Production facilities and tooling go away. Manufacturing know-how goes away. Operational know how goes away. You can't bring that all back on overnight with the stroke of a pen and the snap of fingers. Four or eight years and you end up starting nearly from scratch.

I know you all are upset and all but come on man....take it to the appropriate forum.
This is the appropriate forum. If you are referring to forum 22, nobody posts there. It was created due to the huge thread traffic around the election. It served it's purpose. Padded Room has been the historical place for topics like this.

    KQ,

You can't just shut down programs like these and then re start them later. The minutia, detail, and momentum that goes into these programs. The routine of doing this stuff day to day, the experience you gain every day. It's hard to just pick it up later. You lose the very people who have and are gaining the knowledge to take steps in gaining more knowledge. You can't just re assemble the gang a year down the road and expect to be where you were

This is a hard topic to keep out of the political realm because it seems like it's being used as a political toy, which it shouldn't.

We beat Russia to the moon in the late 60s. That's why we had a space program in the first place. We won. Get over it.

If you really think it was only about who got to stick a flag on the moon first, you have to be willfully ignorant.

It WAS until they made the other forum. We used to post this kinda stuff in the Ski forum until they created this forum. History is fine but things change. So no one posts there - find another board that is dedicated to politics and you'll have a better audience.

I'd be happy if a tiny fraction of what is/was spent in space was spent on our own planet first. Specifically, the oceans would be great, but anywhere would do.

You've posted a ton of political shit. You've NEVER posted a stoke thread and the vast majority of your threads have nothing to do with skiing. In summary, I submit that you are the one who needs to find a new audience.

Military high ground and a very visible competition between two of the most powerful world powers, resulting in stimulus spending and technological innovation in both countries. We had a war called the Cold War back then. Put the game controller down and look it up.

The moon, we found out, is a useless barren place, hardly worth .5% of the expense to go there and plant a flag. The Chinese are doing it today to prove some sort of stupid point that they aren't pajama clad red book readers anymore. Big deal. We did it a long time ago. Mars manned travel is basically impossible if you don't want to accept the fact that it's a suicide mission. But, the robots we make these days find plenty for the nerds to mull over. That costs enough as it is.

Its obvious, Obama saw Avatar and realized sending men into space was a bad idea for intergallactic humanities. Michael Cameron is to blame, not Obama.

Dear KQ, nobody gives a fuck that you are a lawyer, and you don't contribute much of anything to these forums was my point. You are the one arguing about "wrong forum," remember?

I'm EXTREMELY aware of the Cold War. But if you think the ultimate high ground is no longer relevant, then you a fool. It is still quite relevant.

The moon, we found out, is a useless barren place, hardly worth .5% of the expense to go there and plant a flag.
There are resources to be gained there. Ti and He-3 come to mind. There's also tons of materials on the moon to support a colony and expand it without launching materials from Earth.

Further, for solar system exploration or asteroid capture for mining, there is a shit ton of reaction mass on the Moon which has a much smaller gravity well than Earth.

Mars manned travel is basically impossible if you don't want to accept the fact that it's a suicide mission.
Nope... not if we get over the idea of using chemical rockets. Chemical rocket based exploration of the solar system is retarded.
