Either.
Check out the reviews in your own area about providers.
That'll tell you which to get.
I think dslreport.com still has reviews based on region.
Make sure you pay attention in each review to where the person is, some people are dumb and can't figure out where they are.

Cable is usually faster.
DSL is usually cheaper.
Either will work.
If you are in the city, try a wireless LAN - you may pick up your neighbors connection for free.
if you need a static ip then you may be stuck with dsl.
also if you upload a lot, cable is usually only 256 up, while with dsl you can get what you need.

See if you can get "naked" DSL, that way you can do it without a phone line. It's cheaper than cable, and you don't have to have a home phone line for it.
PM me if you need more info, it's what I have.
Cable. DSL is somewhat dependant on the quality of your phone lines. If the lines in your area are older, DSL tends to be not so fast or reliable. I was the lucky one who put DSL and Cable into approx 18 retail locations (stand alone and mall) for the wireless sales company I work for, we have had considerablely better and more reliable service in the locations in which we were able to install cable. If you do get DSL, spring for a nicer modem than what they will pawn off on you for free.

Whichever one is the most dependable in your area. Service reliability and costomer service/tech support are the two most important aspects of high-speed internet.
