On skis in Bryce and Cedar Breaks-Video

Can't really call this 'skiing', more skinning and buttering the one turns for still photo's, but what it lacks in turns might be made up for by the location. Did a quick recon trip a month ago and found better conditions than expected. The place would be all time with 3ft of snow. Kinda like skiing Haines spines on Mars.

Thanks to my bro Jonah for punching the keys in the edit booth on this one!

that's something i've thought about doing ever since i moved to UT. sounds like it'd be worth it with the right conditions.

Make sure to check out Cedar Canyon -- you can approach the lines from the bottom there and not worry about cliffs.

There was a ski movie awhile back that had Jamie Pierre skiing some pretty legit lines down there. Pretty sure it was a record snow year and conditions still looked quite thin. It boggles the mind what could be done there with a real snowpack.

    Nicely done, on many levels.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Awesome. I was just thinking about Bryce in the winter a couple days ago. Great work on the filming, editing, & music. Thanks for sharing.

Nice Noah, that's really beautiful film with awesome light. The beck song brings me right back to when that album was new seven or eight years ago and I banged up from a ski accident involving a buried log, leg elevated for weeks, and was feeling as down-tempo as that album sounds.

Very nice... I proposed to my (now) wife in Bryce in February (exact location at 2:45 in the video). Bryce is awesome in the winter!

I was in Bryce seaveral spring breaks ago right after a snow storm, we had gear with us and were tempted to give it a try, however were not savvy to the rules and did not want to risk being 86'd from National Parks. Looks good.

El Nino is juicing up. The snowpack down there is probably soon to get a whole lot better.

    Thanks for the video, Noah.

Yeah my memory is that the runs in the part of Bryce Canyon by Ruby's Inn are rather short -- not more than 400 vertical feet -- but steep enough for some powder turns.

So you go there mainly for the scenery, exploring around the colorful rocks. Seems like skiing powder there on a cloudy day would kinda miss the point of it. On a sunny day down in there wandering around in the snow it's really amazing.

That's my memory from a couple of days skiing there lots of years ago -- which someone more recent can correct. In addition to the obvious slopes below the rim near Ruby's Inn, looked like a nice shot near Bryce Point.

A few years later I brought Sharon down, but there wasn't really enough snow to ski, so we hiked the Fairyland trail in our backcountry ski boots. Which was great. My memory is that it works best to do the loop clockwise, so that you're seeing the snow on the north sides of the rocks in the sections below the rim.

With the snow hitting more south in the next couple of days, could be time to make the long drive down there again.

(agree with cloudcult about checking Cedar Canyon from the bottom, but then I tried driving from Cedar Canyon to Cedar Breaks and found out that one section of road wasn't plowed in winter, so next time I'm going to drive to CB from the north)
