    Backcountry.com registry?

So backcountry.com said they don't have a wedding registry. Obviously, I'm a gear slut and I'm marrying a gear slut (I seduced her with my gear). We do not want wedding china or small kitchen appliances. We want a sweet trad rack, ice screws, a build kit for a freeride bike, etc.

Has anyone found a way to get around this problem?

Make a list of item numbers, sizes, colors, etc. You can search by item number on BC.com so it'll be easy enough for folks look stuff up. I guess you'd then want to put the list on your wedding website (seems everyone has one these days) for all to see. I guess it's not as retard proof as a Williams Sonoma registry but it should work.

BTW, I'd expect some traditional types to get a little sandy at the idea of getting you outdoor gear as a wedding gift. They'll probably just give you cash. Back home, we call that a win-win.

What if they end up with 100 ice screws? There's got to be a way that people would know if an item on the list was already purchased.

Good point. Shared Google spreadsheet maybe? Instead of listing shit on a website they could just email the shared spreadsheet to all invitees. When someone purchases something, they check it off on the spreadsheet.

Definitely not foolproof but it's the best I can come with.

Not a bad idea. When I worked with all Canucks, some of whom worked remotely from the main Canuck office, we used Google spreadsheet. Kind of neat how they work.

I don't know why they wouldn't do that, seems like a great idea.

Check out MyRegistry.com - my wife and I used it last year to register for several different stores on the same consolidated site. I think you just download their little widget, and then go to the website you want to register on... when you find the item, you just click "add to registry" and enter a comment about the size, and voila!

(maybe not these exact instructions, but damn close)

Yeah, I can't help much with the registry thing but I love this thread. Congrats to both of you!

Seconding the recommendation for myregistry.com - works pretty well. You should run through it from the gift giver point of view though - there is some funkiness to the user experience that you should be aware of before sending it to all your friends and family. (Basically, it's a free service and they pay for it by showing lots of ads to gift givers.)

Thanks for all the good advice. I was surprised to see this thread back on the front page today.

We're registering at REI and Sears. Easy to use and simple, and we can still ask for mostly gear and power tools. There will be a set of silverware and a crock pot mixed in there somewhere to appease home goods-oriented family, but we are, in fact, hoping for the gift of cash from these individuals.

    Thanks.

We already have so many gravy boats - we just don't have space for any more.

So what we really want are his and hers Karhu XCD Guides with 22 Designs Light Dogs, for aggressively walking the dogs.

you can return stuff you don't want for credit towards stuff you do want.

since all my relatives like to buy $50-100 of cheezy shit as a present, and what we really wanted cost $500, we put on a bunch of stuff that people love to give as a gift: wine glasses, beer mugs, ect - basically anything party related. Then we returned these things and bought what we wanted. it worked.
