Finally saw the movie and saw the 3D version. After a while the 3D effect lessened, but the visuals still were damn impressive.

Wow I finally saw it, and finally saw it in IMAX 3D as well (first time going to see a "3D" movie too). I wasn't sure how people were getting so amazed by CGI but I get it now. I'm pretty blown away.

    Oh, and 3D is...

I saw a crappy pirate copy out on the high seas. No 3d, no Imax, and the subtitles were in Russian so when the aliens were speaking in alien, they were also speaking in Russian (for the record I speak neither).

I can see how the entertainment factor would be heightened considerably with 3d and Imax. Without all that "WOW" factor it was just a cheesy movie.
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

Isn't that like saying you heard an overmodulated cellphone transmision of a live concert and found the musicianship to be a bit lacking?

"The Old Man and the Sea" is just a silly story about a guy fishing.

we got to the theater late and had to sit in the 5th row. which turned out to be amazing. the screen filled up our entire field of view and submersed us in the 3d/imax-ness that much more. fantastic.

The ability of the 3D to pop out at you is completely determined by how much of the screen is in your field of view. That is why the imax showings are so much better.

That depends on if the musicianship was there to begin with.

I'd hardly call it silly, but it is just a story. Exquisitely written. I haven't read it in close to two decades but I especially like the old man's thoughts about the little piece of seaweed on the line creating extra drag for the marlin. There were also two instances today where I thought about that book: once when I was wiping the salt from my Pelican case, because the old man wished he'd intentionally splashed some water onto his boat so he could have harvested the salt and added a bit of flavor to his dorado (we saw a few schools of them shortly after that which was a nice touch), and once when I got home and cracked open a beer and wished I had remembered to bring limes.

saw it again today at the science center in seattle. The huge IMAX screen absorbs you in to the movie. On second view, the story is not very original, but damn, those effects are incredible.

I definitely noticed nips on Neytire in the imax 3d

Entertaining enough and stunning to look at but essentially an exceedingly detailed three hour video game -- without the benefit of remote controls.

Finally saw this. My favorite part was when the cliched commando dude describes at length how horrible the surroundings are and that Pandora was basically hell for humans. My second favorite part was when he was sipping hot coffee while blowing up the big tree.
