It's been a respectable week for storms in the Sierra.

It looks like ski season in Mammoth starts in earnest tomorrow when things get buried until the spring thaw.

Hutash, Monday will be fun. Look for me to be breaking in a new pair of skins next weekend.

I am making the slog up from the South Bay tomorrow. Latest 395 reports looks "fun", glad I waited but GOT to be there for Monday morning:

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT IN THE OWENS VALLEY. SPOTTERS IN BISHOP HAVE REPORTED 3 TO 5 INCHES AS OF 330 PM...WITH HEAVY SNOW STILL FALLING. THE HEAVY WET SNOW WAS CAUSING TREE BRANCHES AND POWER LINES TO SAG...SO POWER OUTAGES WILL BE POSSIBLE. SOUTH WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH TONIGHT...WHICH COULD CREATE AREAS OF DRIFTING SNOW AND LOW VISIBILITY.

Could be a few more feet falling tonight and tomorrow morning. Wet base snow is just the ticket!

Absolutely ridiculous today. Snowing at least as hard as I can ever remember, anywhere.

Picts of this morning would just look like a white page with the wind blowing all the new snow around. I unfortunately am a dumb ass and left the camera at home as well. Boo hiss. Poor form. Some will be gotten and tomorrow is looking tasty. Who is still up tomorrow?

With this amount of heavier snow over the lighter stuff from the beginning of the storm, large accumulations, and rapid accumulation rates, avi control may take a lot of stuff to the dirt.

I'd really expect Mammoth to be very slow in opening the upper mountain as they wait as long as possible and allow the snow to set up a bit.

yeah. I want to get out on red cone or the sherwins, but it's going to take a while for this stuff to settle down. I'm going to drive up Bishop Creek this afternoon to see how much it's filled in up there . . .

That is some scary shit. I hope they keep the top at Mammoth closed for days to let it set up and me get up there.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

I was snowmobiling at Crater Flat today and you could hear and feel the snow whoomph when we were stopped. That was on flat ground. I would be surprised if anything gets open before noon tomorrow.

It was waist deep out there. Damn it was good and there were only seven of us out there. More trickled in as the day went on but fresh pow turns were everywhere.

Ahhh, that was damn fun! Unfortunately the typical Mammoth wind cranked up today and I'm sure it has compacted most of the top down so it won't be too deep tomorrow when/if it opens. Cracks of blue sky now so this thing is done.

Nice to be back after nearly 2 years of on again off again DL.

1st tracks down chute skiers left of gravy chute (baby gravy?) after a short hike from 2. Very deeep in there before the world got to it. Road a chair w/ BigKuba and V. Sorry guys, when I saw 1 spinning and people nearing the top I had to cruise. It was that kinda day. Tried to catch back up, but we were on different cycles. Saw tons of peeps out today. Really good fun and looking forward to tomorrow.

Met our resident maggot bus driver on the shuttle home. Cheers!

Such is the reason why storm riding usually is the best bet for the best pow Mammoth has to offer.

Comish, I'm glad that your back skiing on two legs.

I'll see you clowns down there soon, but I'm still gimping towards a cadaver meniscus replacement, so I'll be reckless as hell, knowing I can do no more damage. yeah, riiiight.
