It sure was, although I can only take responsibility for the thread, somebody else concocted the Whelk. I'm a little disappointed I never tagged anything at my high school with a Whelk sticker, it certainly would have been a fitting tribute.

I've seen the whelk many times over the years, and Shinjuku Motherfucker! But had never read this thread until today.

Crazy how long ago this was, I was just a very occasional lurker I think, didn't sign up until a year later. There was a reference in the thread to Bush; this thread was started in his first term!!!
