Cool Anyone else <3 oldies music? whatcha got?

Damn I love me some oldies. Putting together a little playlist while I get ready to putter around cleaning the house, study and cook a bunch of chow.

something about a lazy sunday... calls for oldies.

    also like:
    - the beach boys
    - the big chill soundtrack
actually, the coasters had a bunch of good ones

    and this sage, timeless classic!

any you like... let's hear it

    Flatt & Scruggs
    Muddy Waters
    Howlin' Wolf
    Professor Longhair

Oh, you mean Oldies Pop Music or MoTown? If Smokey Robinson or Otis Redding counts then get yourself some Temptations, girlfriend.

Can't go wrong with anything from Wilson Pickett.

Could also toss in the Isley Brothers and O'Jays.

Check out the podcast Rock and Rollercoaster on http://psychobillydeluxe.com/?cat=9

Its not all old stuff but the oldies on the podcast are B sides and weird stuff . Its all mixed up with hellbilly/rockabilly and oldies . The DJ doesnt talk too much but is entertaining. Some of the other podcast on there the DJ talks waaay too much about the genre. Not totally oldies but if your into weird stuff check it out.

There is 57, 45 minute shows so there is a lot of shit there.

what are we classifying as "oldies"?

i usually think of Frank, Perry, Englebert, the 4 Freshmen, that kinda stuff...

as for the early R&B you listed, i was always a Temptations man, myself.

My dad used to have old records around and I must have listened to "Earth Angel" a million times. I have a soft spot for the "oldies":

also, I remember a "song", or one of the sides of these old 45s that had something about space invaders...

    BD4All,

This has all the makings of true TGR "Hall of Fame" thread; great idea!!! It takes alot for me to not have the energy to post in a thread such as this "historical" one, but my new phone has got me about to have a stroke.

I promise; I'll be back within a day or two with some worthy "tripoly x tripoly" posts. Way to many oldie 3 somes to choose from; just way to many.

p.s. the poster ^ there that wants to know what is an oldie??? let the greater population decide. it used to be easy back in the day; you know, 50's & 60's stuff. now, it may make it into the mid to late 70's ..... best "ref call" will be - "NO!!; that is not an Oldy from the General population".

again, good luck and a great thread idea; especially for late night minds!!! thanks.

Buddy Holly was 22 when he died. It's kind of scary, mostly a bummer.

    Brill Building
    Stax/Volt
    King Curtis!

But really, Aretha Franklin. My #1 pick in the all-time music fantasy draft- now there's a thread idea.

Procol Harum (who did "Whiter Shade of Pale") is pretty much forgotten but they have some more-than-decent, and entirely forgotten, tracks.

Wow, I don't even remember typing that last night. I was drunk.

Quick addendum: fans of that oldies sound should really check out Girls. You can listen to their album here-. Awesome.

All you need to do is copy & paste the Youtube URL, not the "embed" code.

Basically this without the spaces: http: //www. youtube.com/ watch? v= RmZdvVnMXC
