Phil Collins Segment in "In Deep"

Sickest segment of a ski flick since the Gordy, "Oh My God" pow session. Gave me goosebumps and I had to watch the chapter 3 times in a row. If you haven't seen it yet, get ready to tear a hole in your denim. It's almost all lines that you could see yourself skiing, played in the note of Boner Town.

Bonus footnote: Mark Abma is the present and future of freeskiing. I remember the chub city from Yearbook and the dude just keeps crushing it.

Yeah, hard pressed to disagree with that, Abma is a stunning athlete.

Yup...it's hard to beat. Artist is Spearhead. Song is "Oh My God" on Stay Human album.

    Rev,

I've yet to see the Abma seg from this year's MSP porn; but will now earnestly be looking for it.

Anywho's, I'm gonna very respectively disagree with your Spearhead/Gordy segment recco as the best ever in a major ski porn film and go with one year earlier and the Gordo/Swany "Sundown" Tripoly!!!

p.s. you know you can't deny that slayage ....

Yeah it's a sick segment. Phil Collins has now been added to my on-the-mountain playlist. Who knew?

And yeah, Abma is the shiz.

just saw In Deep last night. The segment with Abma and "In the Air Tonight" was hand down the best. Great ski porn.

Loved the segment but the music irritated me. At this point, if I don't hear Morricone, classic rock or reggae in any ski flicks, I'd be just fine.

It was sweet and all, but slow music + slowed down clips = very boring. Sick skiing, awesome shots, but MSP's excessive use of slow motion kills me. Throughout the movie, there would be 10+ slowed down clips in a row, one or two at the original speed, then repeat. Slow motion is great for seeing detail in a shot, highlighting the sick snow, studying athletes' movements, but it does not make for action-packed, super-stoke ski porn.

In short, good product, but I don't prefer their editing style.

I think the potato gun proved the stability.

Sick segment, and I like the movie overall, but I think MSP needs to cut back on the athlete voiceovers (people have been saying this for how long). Limit it to one line per athlete max. I find snowboard films (Absinthe, Standard, Burton since they have some of the Mack Dawg guys this year) have better 'flow' to them and don't seem to drag, and very minimal voiceovers.

Much better than the Piano Man segment IMO. Not to say that the Piano Man stuff was terrible. It was good for a laugh at the start but dragged on too long. But, who cares? I just wanted to look at Ingrid Backstrom.

Just wanted to say that Daron Rahlves slays hard in this movie. Really fast AK lines, some nice big drops too and REALLY fast in total control like you'd expect from a downhiller, reminds me of Jeremy Nobis, hope to see more from him in the future.

Sean's segment was ridiculous as well. Daron had the pedal down his whole segment. dav's ragdolls were intense...

Glad most of you guys dug it. It was a risky song choice, and I'm sure most kids under 30 despise it, but it paid off for others. It's something I wanted to make for "real" skiers, and it looks like you got it.

For those who think there's too much slow motion, consult the last 20 years of any movie "powder" segments, and I think you'll find there are a hell of a lot more real speed shots in this segment. And if you still think MSP has way too much slow mo, look at the Monashee powder segment from last year in Claim (probably 90% real speed) and compare that to any pow segments out there, especially any shot on film as opposed to digital video. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Agreed, I thought it was a sick segment. Though I think all movies should be in real speed.... more footage
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
